Abstract:
A two stage ironmaking process includes a first stage that includes solid state reduction of iron ore and producing a partially-reduced iron-containing feed material and an off-gas containing CO2 at a location that is in close proximity to a site for sequestering CO2. A second stage of the process includes transporting the feed material to an ironmaking facility iron at another location and producing iron from the feed material.
Abstract:
An apparatus for injecting gas into a vessel is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a gas flow duct from which to discharge gas from the duct, an elongate central structure extending within the gas flow duct, and a plurality of flow directing vanes disposed about the central structure adjacent the forward end of the duct to impart swirl to a gas flow through the forward end of the duct. The apparatus also comprises cooling water flow passages in the vanes that have inlets at the forward ends of the vanes and outlets at the rear ends of the vanes.
Abstract:
A method of sorting mined material for subsequent processing to recover valuable material, such as valuable metals, from the mined material is disclosed. The method includes a combination of selective breakage of mined material, for example, by using microwaves and/or high pressure grinding rolls, subsequent size separation, and then particle sorting of a coarse fraction of the separated material based on differential heating and thermal imaging.
Abstract:
A method of mining is disclosed. The method includes mining material in a mine in accordance with a mine plan designed to maximise the financial performance of the mining operation at the mine. The mine plan is based on mining to at least produce: (i) recovery grade ore that is valuable and suitable for recovery processing and there is no net economic benefit in sorting the ore prior to recovery processing the ore; or (ii) waste material that is waste and there is no net economic benefit in sorting the material; or (iii) economically sortable ore wherein there is a net positive economic benefit in sorting the ore prior to recovery processing the ore
Abstract:
A material supply apparatus and process for co-injecting heated solid metalliferous material and solid carbonaceous material via a solids injection lance into a direct smelting vessel are disclosed.
Abstract:
A system and method for the drilling of ground holes by a track steer drill rig including a drilling arrangement that permits the speed of drilling holes to be balanced against the stability of the hole thus formed.
Abstract:
A method of controlling a froth flotation cell in a froth flotation circuit for separating substances comprises periodically carrying out a control routine to maximise froth stability during the operation of the cell. The control routine comprises changing the gas flow rate to the cell in a series of steps and assessing the froth stability at each gas flow rate and continuing the step changes in the gas flow rate until the froth stability is a peak froth stability or is within a predetermined range of the peak froth stability of the cell.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for obtaining information from drilled holes for mining A mobile vehicle (11) is operated autonomously to approach a hole (13a) from which information is to be obtained. An onboard perception system (17) detects the exact location of the hole and an onboard sensor (26) is deployed from the vehicle into the hole. Perception system (17) comprises a number of scanners (23) carried by a mounting (24) fitted to the rear of the vehicle. A downhole sensor unit (18) movable along a swinging arm (19) carries downhole sensors selectively lowerable into the hole by operation of cable reels within the unit (18).
Abstract:
A steelmaking process is disclosed. The process includes producing molten steel and molten steelmaking slag in a steelmaking process, the steelmaking slag including iron units and flux units, and thereafter producing molten iron in a molten bath based direct smelting process using a substantial portion of the steelmaking slag as part of the feed material requirements for the direct smelting process. A direct smelting process is also disclosed. The process includes pre-treating ferrous material including steelmaking slag and thereafter direct smelting molten iron using the pretreated ferrous material as part of the feed material for the process.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for crushing material, particularly mined material, are disclosed. In one embodiment two or more pairs of crushing rolls successively crush mined material. The pairs of crushing rolls are arranged and operated so that an upstream pair of rolls produces a feed, preferably a pressurized feed, for a downstream pair of rolls. In another embodiment, at least an upstream pair of rolls is driven intermittently, for example, by means of a stepping motor to provide stepped rotational movement of the rolls.
