Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a custom made orthotic or insole for footwear. Information relating to the pressure applied by the sole of a person's foot is used to custom produce an orthotic or insole for the person by using softer material or different structural components, selectively located at pressure points of a particular individual, to unload pressure on the foot at those points. Pressure readings taken for the foot of an individual identify pressure points for that foot. The pressure points are quantified and the foot is “mapped” in a grid format on a pressure map. Once mapped, structural components corresponding to a particular pressure value are positioned in the orthotic based on the mapping. The compression cells are created via 3D printing methods based on an individual's pressure readings and results from an electronic pressure plate utilizing pressure response sensors.

Abstract: The ankle foot orthosis solves a problem of a poor adaptation to a user's foot (3) and the related discomfort. It provides for simultaneous correction of several symptoms in the foot and ankle areas. It is completely produced from a uniform material, the thickness and shape of which change depending on user's specific needs. It is designed in such a way that it does not intervene with other functions of a user's foot. It is manufactured by preparing a 3D model of a user's foot when placed in a physiologically correct static position, by modelling the ankle foot orthosis directly to a 3D model of the foot (3), by 3D printing from preferably a photopolymer, and by adequate post-processing. Due to its minimalistic design, the user can wear the orthosis in a shoe of his appropriate foot size.

Abstract: A measurement device suitable to measure a load applied by the muscular-skeletal system is disclosed. The measurement device can be a prosthetic component having an articular surface for measuring parameters of a joint in extension or flexion. A first and second support structure forms an enclosure having load-bearing surfaces. The first support structure includes at least one alignment feature extending from a surface. The second support structure includes a corresponding opening for receiving the alignment feature. The first and second support structures include a peripheral channel and corresponding flange to support sealing of the enclosure. Interior to the enclosure is the measurement system. The alignment feature couples through and aligns a first load plate, a sensor array, and a second load plate to surfaces of the first and second support structures. The sensor array is coupled to electronic circuitry in the enclosure via a unitary circuit board.

Abstract: A center of pressure (CoP) based control system includes a sensing device and an electronic device connected to the sensing device. The sensing device includes sensors each of which continuously measures force exerted thereon by a subject and generates a sense signal based on a result of the measurement. The electronic device is connected to the sensing device, and receives the sense signals from the respective sensors, generates CoP data associated with a CoP trajectory based on the sense signals, determines whether a turning point exists in the CoP trajectory, generates an indication signal based on a result of the determination, and generates a control signal based on a direction of one of displacements of the CoP.
