Abstract: Example methods are provided for first host to perform multicast packet handling in a software-defined networking (SDN) environment. The method may comprise: in response to the first host detecting, from a first virtualized computing instance, a request to join a multicast group address, obtaining control information from a network management entity. The control information may include one or more destination addresses associated with one or more second hosts that have joined the multicast group address on behalf of multiple second virtualized computing instances. The method may also comprise: in response to the first host detecting an egress multicast packet that includes an inner header addressed to the multicast group address, generating one or more encapsulated multicast packets based on the control information and sending the one or more encapsulated multicast packets in a unicast manner or multicast manner, or a combination of both.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a network adapter obtains tunneling endpoint information for each virtual switch of a plurality of virtual switches of a multi-destination group. The network adapter encapsulates each of a plurality of replicated multi-destination packets corresponding to respective virtual switches of the plurality of virtual switches with a header specific to a respective tunneling protocol identified in the tunneling endpoint information obtained for the respective virtual switch. The network adapter transmits each encapsulated multi-destination packet to a respective receiver hosted on the respective virtual switch corresponding to the encapsulated multi-destination packet, wherein the respective virtual switch determines a destination port for the encapsulated multi-destination packet on the respective virtual switch by identifying the multi-destination group, determined from the encapsulated multi-destination packet, in a port list on the respective virtual switch.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to providing reduced power consumption in wireless communication systems, such as 802.11 WLAN systems. Timing information regarding power save opportunities (PSOPs) may be provided in communication frames, which may inform mobile devices of expected frame exchange periods during which they may transition to a Doze state. Additional PSOP information may be included in beacon frames, which may inform mobile devices of expected multicast periods during which they may transition to a Doze state. This may operate to provide improvements in terms of power consumption.

Abstract: A packet received via a network is stored in a packet memory. Information in a header of the packet is analyzed to determine multiple ports to which the packet is to be forwarded. The packet is read from the packet memory in connection with transmitting the packet via a first port among the multiple ports. Packet data corresponding to the packet is stored in a packet cache different than the packet memory. In connection with forwarding one or more instances of the packet to ports among the multiple ports, the packet data is read, based on information included in a packet descriptor associated with the packet, from the packet cache. Ones of the one or more instances of the packet are forwarded, using the data corresponding to the packet read from the packet cache and without further accessing the packet memory, to respective one or more of the multiple ports.

Abstract: Exemplified systems and methods facilitate multicasting latency optimization operations for router, switches, and other network devices, for routed Layer-3 multicast packets to provide even distribution latency and/or selective prioritized distribution of latency among multicast destinations. A list of network destinations for serially-replicated packets is traversed in different sequences from one packet to the next, to provide delay fairness among the listed destinations. The list of network destinations are mapped to physical network ports, virtual ports, or logical ports of the router, switches, or other network devices and, thus, the different sequences are also traversed from these physical network ports, virtual ports, or logical ports. The exemplified systems and methods facilitates the management of traffic that is particularly beneficial in in a data center.

Abstract: A multicast rule is represented in a hierarchical linked list with N tiers. Each tier or level in the hierarchical linked list corresponds to a network layer of a network stack that requires replication. Redundant groups in each tier are eliminated such that the groups in each tier are stored exactly once in a replication table. A multicast replication engine traverses the hierarchical linked list and replicates a packet according to each node in the hierarchical linked list.

Abstract: Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) snooping includes flooding an IGMP query received at a border leaf switch from a multicast router connected to the multicast router to all host devices in a given bridge domain through leaf switches in the bridge domain, and receiving multiple join requests from the connected host devices at the leaf switches. The IGMP snooping also includes consolidating the multiple join requests received at the leaf switches into a multicast groups membership repository to indicate for each leaf switch the multicast group membership of interest in the given bridge domain, and sending the repository to the border leaf switch to enable the border leaf switch to send a consolidated IGMP proxy report on behalf of the leaf switches to the multicast router based on the repository and that indicates the multicast membership of interest in the given bridge domain.

Abstract: A forwarding pipeline of a forwarding engine includes a mirror bit mask vector with one bit per supported independent mirror session. Each bit in the mirror bit mask vector can be set at any point in the forwarding pipeline when the forwarding engine determines that conditions for a corresponding mirror session are met. At the end of the forwarding pipeline, if any of the bits in the mirror bit mask vector is set, then a packet, the mirror bit mask vector and a pointer to the start of a mirror destination linked list are forwarded to the multicast replication engine. The mirror destination linked list typically defines a rule for mirroring. The multicast replication engine mirrors the packet according to the mirror destination linked list and the mirror bit mask vector.

Abstract: A system and method are provided that support a routing using a tree-like or graph topology that supports multiple links per node, where each link is designated as an Up, Down, or Lateral link, or both, within the topology. The system may use a segmented MAC architecture which may have a method of re-purposing MAC IP addresses for inside MACs and outside MACs, and leveraging what would normally be the physical signaling for the MAC to feed into the switch.
