A composition is disclosed which comprises an aqueous phase and dispersed or dissolved in said aqueous phase an organo-borate compound having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a divalent hydrocarbon-based group,R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbon-based group or a group of the formula --R.sup.4 O).sub.y H,R.sup.3 and R.sup.5 are hydrocarbon-based groups,R.sup.4 is a divalent hydrocarbon-based group,x is an integer of at least 1,y is an integer of at least 1,the sum of x and y has an average in the range of about 2 to about 75, andz is 0, 1 or 2.Aqueous concentrates and water-based functional fluids containing the above compositions are also disclosed.

Water-based metal-containing organic phosphate compositions which are useful as corrosion-inhibiting coating compositions, metal working lubricants and drilling fluids for well-drilling operations are disclosed. These compositions comprise: (A) water or an aqueous drilling mud; (B) an overbased non-Newtonian colloidal disperse system comprising (B)(1) solid metal-containing colloidal particles predispersed in (B)(2) a dispersing medium of at least one inert organic liquid and (B)(3) at least one member selected from the class consisting of organic compounds which are substantially soluble in said dispersing medium, the molecules of said organic compound being characterized by polar substituents and hydrophobic portions; and (C) a metal-containing organic phosphate complex derived from the reaction of (C)(1) at least one polyvalent metal salt of an acid phosphate ester, said acid phosphate ester being derived from the reaction of phosphorus pentoxide or phorphoric acid with a mixture of at least one monohydric alcohol and at least one polyhydric alcohol, with (C)(2) at least one organic epoxide. These compositions preferably include an effective amount of (D) an alkali or an alkaline earth metal salt of an organic acid, (E) a carboxylic acid and (F) an N-(hydroxyl-substituted hydrocarbyl) amine to enhance the dispersion of components (B) and (C) with said water or drilling mud (A).

Disclosed is an improved water-based hydraulic fluid composition which comprises an aqueous composition having a viscosity of at least 5 centistokes at 40.degree. C. which contains up to about 95 percent by weight of water, at least 0.1 percent by weight of a carboxylic acid lubricity agent, and an effective amount of an anti-wear additive; wherein the improvement comprises:said anti-wear agent comprising the combination of:(a) mono-, di-, and trihydroxy-substituted aromatic non-carboxylic acid compounds; with(b) substituted aromatic compounds, wherein the substituents comprise mono-, di-, and trinitro groups.
Abstract:
A water base hydraulic fluid is disclosed. The fluid comprises 40 wt % of an amphoteric surfactant of the formula:CH.sub.3 (CH.sub.2).sub.5 --CH(CH.sub.3)--NHCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 COOHand 10 wt % polypropylene glycol in water.The diluted hydraulic fluid is noted for its good wear characteristics, anticorrosiveness and non foaming nature.

Abstract:
Inhibitors useful in preventing the corrosion of metal surfaces that contact aqueous systems containing them are disclosed. The inhibitors comprise mixtures of monoamine salts of polycarboxylic acids and boric acid. Typical corrosion inhibitors are made from acids such as dodecanedioic, sebacic and azelaic acid, monoamines such as mono-, di- and triethanol amines and boric acid.

It has been found that a conveyor system can be lubricated with dilute [1.0.times.10.sup.-3 M] aqueous solutions of a partially neutralized mono phosphate ester of the formula: ##STR1## wherein n has a value 0 to 3 and R is a C.sub.12 to C.sub.20 saturated or partially unsaturated linear alkyl group, or a mixture of such groups. The use of a synergist such as a long-chain alcohol, a fatty-acid derived amine oxide, or urea improves the properties of the lubricant compositions.
