Abstract:
A filling compound for electrical and optical equipment in the form of cables, connectors, plugs etc. and to assemblies thus produced, is provided. Electrical and optical equipment in the form of cables, connectors, plugs etc. have to be protected against harmful influences penetrating from outside, particularly water, and also against mechanical damage during laying or as a result of exposure to heat. The filling compound is based on a stellate substance, i.e. a substance having a branched molecular structure in which, ideally, 3 or more branches, more particularly polymeric chains, radiate from a single branching point. The filling compound is flexible at very low temperatures but, on the other hand, does not run out, even at extremely high temperatures.

Abstract:
The invention concerns the use of mixed hydroxydes of bivalent and trivalent metals with a three-dimensional spaced-lattice structure of the garnet type to control the thixotropic thickening of aqueous preparations, using swellable clays and/or other swellable layer-silicate compounds of natural and/or synthetic origin as visosity-increasing agents. The preferred garnet-type mixed hydroxydes are catoites of the basic structure Ca.sub.3 Al.sub.2 (OH).sub.12 a minor proportion of whose OH units can be exchanged for acid groups, in particular silicate groups.
Abstract:
A composition for lubricating a metal workpiece prior to cold forming consists essentially of: an aqueous alkaline stearate compound present in an amount sufficient to impart metal lubrication between about 180.degree. F. and about 320.degree. F.; an aqueous alkaline palmitate compound present in an amount sufficient to impart metal lubrication below about 160.degree. F.; an aqueous metallic stearate compound present in an amount sufficient to impart metal lubrication between about 320.degree. F. and 440.degree. F.; a polymeric glycol present in an amount sufficient to provide temperature stability, act as a carrier for the aqueous compounds, and impart a waxy lubrication to the metal; a compound present in an amount sufficient to act as a carrier for the aqueous compounds and to provide a translucent film barrier on the metal; an alkaline buffering agent present in an amount sufficient to provide dispersion, viscosity and stability; a hydrotropic agent present in an amount sufficient to solubilize the lubricating composition. A process is disclosed for lubricating a metal workpiece outer surface prior to cold forming, the process comprising the step of disposing a non-reactive lubricating composition on the workpiece outer surface, the outer surface having been alkaline cleaned, hot water rinsed, acid pickled, and cold water rinsed.
Abstract:
Multifunctional additives having a variety of advantageous properties are described. They are formed by a process which comprises heating concurrently or in any sequence a) an oil-soluble ashless dispersant containing basic nitrogen with b) an alkoxylated alcohol of at least 8 carbon atoms c) a borating agent and optionally d) an inorganic oxyacid or anhydride of phosphorous. The reactants are in proportions on an active ingredient basis of about 0.03 to about 0.35 part by weight of b) per part by weight of a), and about 0.005 to about 0.06 part by weight of boron as c) per part by weight of a). The reaction temperature can range from about 50.degree. to about 150.degree. C. Water and/or solids present in the resultant mixture can be removed. Preferably, the optional phosphorous component is used in the formation of these additives. This phosphorous component can be an inorganic oxyacid or anhydride of phosphorous.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition including ethoxylated long chain primary alcohols and, preferably, boron compounds but excluding most other previously used organic lubricant materials gives superior results in tube pointing operations, especially with thick walled tubes, and is also useful for drawing operations, either subsequent to pointing or independently of pointing, where very high quality surface finishes are desired.
Abstract:
A stearate free solid lubricant for cold working of metals contains approximately equal amounts of an alkene-acrylate ionomer and an alkoxylated alcohol in which the alcohol moiety has from 18-60 carbon atoms and the alkoxylate block has about the same number of carbon atoms. This lubricant can be conveniently applied from aqueous solution/suspension and works effectively even when the underlying steel surface has no conversion coating, which is usually required with stearate lubricants for best results.
