Abstract:
Lubricant compositions comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor proportion of water containing in an amount sufficient to counteract the accelerating effect of water on metal fatigue an amine salt of a half-ester of a substituted succinic acid. Greases containing the above-described amine salts are also provided.
Abstract:
Lubricant compositions are provided, containing an antiwear amount of a compound having the structure Y(CN).sub.n in which n is a whole number from 2 to 6 and when n is 2, Y is alkylene, phenylene or benzylene, when n is 3, Y is a tris(ethyleneoxy) paraffin having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, when n is 4, Y is a tetrakis(ethyleneoxy) paraffin having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, when n is 5, Y is a pentakis(ethyleneoxy) paraffin having from 5 to 16 carbon atoms, and when n l is 6, Y is a hexakis(ethyleneoxy) cycloparaffin having from 6 to 16 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
An alkyl phenol having from about 20 to about 300 carbon atoms, formaldehyde and trishydroxymethylaminomethane are reacted and the resulting product is then reacted with boric acid, dialkyl phosphonate or a diaryl phosphonate to produce the corresponding borate or phosphonate derivatives. These derivatives are particularly useful as detergents in organic media such as lubricating oils, greases, fuels, heat-exchange fluids and transmission fluids.
Abstract:
Organic compositions, particularly lubricating compositions in the form of lubricating oils and greases, are provided, containing, as antioxidants, alkali metal arylcarbamates.
Abstract:
An improved method of transmitting power in a hydraulically operated mechanism which comprises adding to the operative liquid a certain amount of a tertiary diamide having the following structural formula: ##EQU1## wherein ##EQU2## and wherein R R H, alkyl radical having C.sub.1 -C.sub.5m = 2-8x = 1-5The tertiary diamide imparts to the liquid the property of swelling seals in the mechanical system and thereby prevents leakage.
Abstract:
A grease may be made having synergistic extreme pressure properties using a major amount of a base oil and a thickener and a minor amount of low density polyethylene and known extreme pressure enhancing additives.
Abstract:
$-SUBSTITUTED-$-BUTYROLACTAMS ARE SYNTHESIZED AS NEW COMPOSITIONS OF MATTER. THESE COMPOUNDS ARE SYNTHESIZED BY REACTING A SUBSTUTED $-LACTONE WITH AMMONIA OR A PRIMARY AMINE AT A TEMPERATURE FROM ABOUT 200*C TO ABOUT 500*C. OVER CERTAIN ZEOLITE CATALYSTS. ADDITIONALLY, $-BUTYROLACTONE CAN BE REACTED WITH AMMONIA OVER ZEOLITE CATALYSTS IN THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE RANGE TO PRODUCE $-BUTYROLACTAM.
Abstract:
ORGANIC COMPOSITIONS ARE PROVIDED CONTAINING, AS A CORROSION INHIBITOR, SALTS OBTAINED BY REACTING AN IMIDAZOLINE OR A DIAMINE WITH AN ALPHA-SUBSTITUTED ACETIC ACID.
Abstract:
Lubricating greases thickened with fibrous asbestos which fibers are coated with aliphatic (up to 30 carbon atoms) esters of Nacyl (aliphatic up to 30 carbon atoms) aminobenzoic acid.
