    Abstract: An elevator system is provided and includes at least one guide rail, safeties to respectively selectively impede or permit movement of an elevator car along a corresponding guide rail and first and second electronic safety actuators (ESAs) respectively coupled to a corresponding safety. The first ESA includes a first braking surface located a first distance from the corresponding guide rail, the second ESA includes a second braking surface located a second distance from the corresponding guide rail and the first and second braking surfaces are deployable across the first and second distances, respectively, to contact the corresponding guide rails. The elevator system further includes a sensing system to determine the first and second distances and a control system to deploy the first and second braking surfaces toward the corresponding guide rails in response to an over-speed or an over-acceleration condition with synchronization based on the first and second distances.

    Abstract: A detection system is provided. The detection system includes gesture sensors installed on front panels of a set of hall doors. The gesture sensors detect motion. The detection system includes a gesture detection unit that controls operations of the gesture sensors. The gesture detection unit analyzes the motion detected by the gesture sensors and detects a pre-determined hand gesture format. The gesture detection unit activates a door open operation for the set of hall doors in response to detecting the pre-determined hand gesture format.

    Abstract: A safety brake for an elevator system including a car and a guide rail is provided. The safety brake is adapted to limit movement of the car in a first direction (D1) along the guide rail when in a braking state and comprises: first and second braking members adapted to be wedged against the guide rail when in a braking state; and an electromagnetic actuator, wherein the safety brake is configured such that: the first and second braking members are biased towards one another in a second direction (D2) substantially perpendicular to the first direction (D1); the first and second braking members are held in a non-braking state spaced apart from one another and the guide rail when the electromagnetic actuator is in a first state; and when the electromagnetic actuator is in a second state, the first and second braking members are moved into the braking state.

    Abstract: A method of verifying a trapped passenger alarm in an elevator system including an elevator car including a sensing apparatus mounted in the elevator car. The method includes obtaining at least one of acceleration of the elevator car and air pressure within the elevator car from the sensing apparatus; detecting the trapped passenger alarm; determining that the trapped passenger alarm is one of a valid trapped passenger alarm and a false trapped passenger alarm in response to the at least one of acceleration of the elevator car and air pressure within the elevator car.
