Abstract: Visualization of a medical procedure to be performed in a coronary vessel (such as a coronary sinus) of a patient is achieved by the steps of: identifying a coronary vessel for a procedure and placing a catheter within the coronary vessel. The coronary vessel is occluded at a site proximal to a distal end of the catheter. A contrast medium is injected into the coronary vessel through the catheter distal end for visualization of the procedure within the coronary vessel. Following the procedure, the contrast medium is removed through the catheter distal end and occlusion of the coronary vessel is discontinued.

Abstract: A method for treating cardiac disease includes accessing a heart and restricting a blood supply to the heart to reduce a size of the heart. A constraining device is placed on the heart. The constraining device is secured to the heart with the constraining device having portions disposed on opposite sides of the heart to constrain circumferential expansion of the heart during diastole and permit unimpeded contraction of the heart during systole. Access to the heart is closed while leaving the constraining device in place on the heart.

Abstract: A catheter for collecting fluid such as blood from a vessel such as a coronary sinus of a patient has an elongated, flexible tubular portion and an annular sealing member spaced from a distal end of the tubular member. A proximal end of the tubular member is adapted to be connected to a source of suction for applying suction to a collection lumen of the tubular member. The distal end is placed in a blood vessel with the sealing member spaced from opposing surface of the vessel in an absence of a suction applied to the collection lumen. Suction is applied to the collection lumen in an amount sufficient to draw blood from the vessel through the fluid inlet and into the collection lumen and further sufficient to urge the opposing surface of the vessel to migrate into sealing engagement with the sealing member.

Abstract: An apparatus for placing a cardiac support device (CSD) on a heart. The apparatus includes a body, a deployment mechanism on the body for supporting the CSD in an open position for placement on the heart, and a release mechanism coupled to the deployment mechanism for releasably mounting the CSD to the deployment mechanism. The release mechanism includes a release element for releasably engaging the CSD, and a release actuator coupled to the release element for actuating the release element to release the CSD.

Abstract: A method for treating an occlusion in a coronary artery of a patient includes percutaneously advancing an occlusion treatment tool (such as an angioplasty balloon or stent delivery device) through the vasculature of the patient and into a coronary artery to a site of the occlusion. Following the treatment of the occlusion, a therapeutic agent is admitted into the first coronary artery. The therapeutic agent is selected to treat microvasculature obstructions at a target cardiac tissue site distal to the site of the occlusion.

Abstract: A cardiac constraint device comprising a jacket of biological compatible material and an adjustment member. The jacket is adapted to be secured to the heart to snugly conform to an external geometry of the heart and assume a maximum adjusted volume to constrain circumferential expansion of the heart beyond the maximum adjusted volume during diastole and to permit unimpeded contraction of the heart during systole. The adjustment mechanism is configured to alter the internal volume defined by the jacket after the jacket is secured to the heart. The invention also provides a method for treating cardiac disease.
