Abstract:
The present invention includes a hydraulic cartridge and unitary frame connection for a high pressure high temperature press apparatus. The invention includes a hydraulic cartridge and a unitary frame threaded together. The hydraulic cartridge includes a cylindrical base and a truncated hollow conical section with external threads having a taper between about 2.650 and 5.650 inches per foot. The unitary frame defines an inner reaction chamber and has an outer surface. An opening in the unitary frame has internal threads extending axially substantially between the outer surface and the inner reaction chamber. The internal threads are adapted to mate with the hydraulic cartridge and the hydraulic cartridge is attached to the unitary frame along the length of the threads.
Abstract:
A rigid composite structure has a first bore formed in a metallic material and a second bore formed by a super hard interior segment or segments disposed within the first bore. Each segment may be lined adjacent to one another and held under compression within the first bore. The segments may be made of super hard materials such as natural diamond, synthetic diamond, polycrystalline diamond, single crystalline diamond, cubic boron nitrate or other superhard composite materials which exhibit low thermal expansion rates and are generally chemically inert. The resultant rigid composite structure may possess higher tolerances to high pressures and high temperatures within the second bore.
Abstract:
A rigid composite structure includes a tubular body made from a metallic material and having a first bore formed therein along a longitudinal axis, and one or more segments formed from a super hard material disposed within the first bore. Each segment has a hole formed in the center thereof, and the segments may be positioned end-to-end and adjacent to one another to align the center holes about the longitudinal axis and form a second bore. The segments can be held under compression within the first bore of the tubular body. The segments may be made of super hard materials such as natural diamond, synthetic diamond, polycrystalline diamond, single crystalline 10 diamond, cubic boron nitrate or other superhard composite materials which exhibit low thermal expansion rates and are generally chemically inert. The resultant rigid composite structure may possess higher tolerances to high pressures and high temperatures within the second bore.
Abstract:
A cartridge assembly for connection to the frame of a high pressure, high temperature press, comprising a front end. The front end may comprise a back up with a conical portion intermediate and coaxial with an anvil and a piston. The anvil may comprise a proximal end in contact with the back-up and a distal end being adapted to form part of a pressurized chamber within the frame. The back-up may comprise a truncated cylinder comprising a first and second interface that are joined by a peripheral cylindrical wall. The cylindrical wall may also comprise a portion extending normally from the periphery of the first interface to a net concave portion of the cylindrical wall. The net concave portion may extend from the normal portion of the cylindrical wall to the periphery of the second interface which abuts the anvil.
Abstract:
An apparatus for regulating a flow of pavement rejuvenation materials for deposit on a roadway is disclosed in one aspect of the invention as including a first channel is supported by a pavement recycling machine and is in communication with a supply of pavement rejuvenation materials; a second channel slideably coupled to the first channel, the pavement rejuvenation materials adapted to flow through the first and second channels; and a hardened tip coupled to the second channel. The apparatus may also have a seat coupled to one of the channels; and a blocking element coupled to the other of the channels. Upon sliding the first channel with respect to the second channel, the blocking element contacts the seat, thereby impeding the flow of pavement rejuvenation materials flowing through the channels.
Abstract:
In one aspect of the invention, a system for removing a layer of a paved surface includes a vehicle adapted to traverse a paved surface in a selected direction. A milling drum attached to the vehicle may be adapted to rotate around an axle substantially normal the selected direction of the vehicle. A moldboard may be positioned rearward of the milling drum and also connected to the vehicle. The moldboard may comprise an end that is adapted to push aggregate removed from the paved surface in the selected direction. A plurality of nozzles may be disposed proximate the end of the moldboard which may also be in communication with a fluid reservoir through a fluid pathway.

Abstract:
The present invention includes a piston valve for charging and discharging a first fluid chamber. The piston valve includes a piston shaft and a ring comprising a seal element. The piston shaft has a first end and a second end with the first end including a counter bore having at least one vent. The ring is disposed within a cylinder and the seal element is disposed intermediate the piston shaft and the ring. The piston valve may be used for intensification purposes such as in a high pressure high temperature hydraulic cartridge.
