Abstract: In a hierarchical data storage system that supplies data, on request, from a library apparatus in which the data are stored on removable media and from a high-speed cache device, the requests are analyzed to select the most frequently requested data and predict the system's least busy periods. During each predicted least busy period, data are copied from the library apparatus to the cache device, if necessary, so that all of the selected most-frequently-requested data are stored in the cache device. Data are not transferred from the library apparatus to the cache device at other times, thereby avoiding unnecessary cache replacements and improving the efficiency with which requests can be served.

Abstract: I-frames are extracted from a normal play stream in an extract section (12), coding parameters and control parameters, such as VBV delay, related to a decoder buffer are modified for trick play in an I-frame picture data conversion processor (15), repeat pictures that display the same image content as the I-frames are generated and added following the I-frames in a repeat picture adder (16), and the transfer rate is controlled in a picture data size controller (17). This solves the problem that when trick play is executed between a server and a terminal on a network, if only I-frames are used the necessary network bandwidth may increase, a buffer may fail in the decoder that reproduces the trick play stream, and the reproduced video image may be disrupted.

Abstract: When emergency shutdown operation becomes necessary while a gas used for applying pressure to the in of the container is being supplied from the receiver tank to the container, the lever is turned and the three-way valve is switched to the second mode. Then the first valve opening in the three-way valve is blocked and the supply of the gas used for applying pressure to an inside of the container from the receiver tank to the container is stopped. In addition, since the gas can flow between the second valve opening on the container side and the third valve opening opened to an atmosphere in the container is released to an atmosphere. In other words, in the present invention, the supply of the gas used for applying pressure to the in the container can be stopped and, in the same time, in the container is released to the atmosphere with a single action, namely, manually turning the lever provided close to the driving seat. Therefore, the safety level of the system is very high.

Abstract: According to the bill processing apparatus of the present invention, the damage of bills picked one by one by the bill processing apparatus and the kind of bills are discriminated by a discriminating and judging section, and stacked in a stacking section by damaged and the kind of bills. The stacked bills are bundled by a predetermined number of bills by a binding unit, and stored in a predetermined safe. At this time, a mark is printed on the bundle of improper bills bundled by a predetermined number. Also, when the bundling state of the proper bills is not favorable, the form of the bundle of the proper bills is selected by a bundle form sensor, and stored in the same storing section as the case of the improper bills. Moreover, in dispensing each bundle, the bundling state of the bundle to be dispensed is checked by the bundle form sensor. Therefore, in a case that the bundle of the bills bundled by the predetermined number of bills is dispensed, only the bundle of the proper bills whose bundling state is within the regulated form is used.
