Abstract: An electronic watch includes a housing member defining a hole along a side surface of the housing member, and a haptic button. The haptic button may include an input member positioned at least partially within the hole and defining an input surface, a magnet configured to generate a magnetic field, and a conductive coil coupled to the input member and positioned at least partially within the magnetic field. The electronic watch may further include a processing unit configured to cause an electrical current to pass through the conductive coil, thereby moving the input member along a translation direction perpendicular to the input surface to produce a haptic output. The conductive coil may be fixed to an interior surface of the input member.

Abstract: An electro-acoustic transducer has an acoustic diaphragm and a voice-coil. The diaphragm defines a first major surface. A flange extends from the diaphragm in a direction opposite the first major surface. The voice-coil has a first plurality of windings positioned adjacent to the acoustic diaphragm and a second plurality of windings positioned distally from the acoustic diaphragm. The flange overlaps the first plurality of windings. The flange and the windings can be adhesively bonded with each other to form a lap joint. The lap joint can transfer force from the voice-coil to the diaphragm.

Abstract: An apparatus with embedded water detection and heater includes a substrate including a number of conductive traces and a lid including multiple electrodes. Each electrode is coupled to at least one of the conductive traces through vias. A sensor is placed inside a cavity of the lid and is electrically coupled to one or more conductive traces of the substrate. A gel at least partially fills the lid and covers the sensor. The presence of water on the apparatus is detected by measuring a dielectric permittivity between at least two of the plurality of electrodes, and the electrodes can generate heat to eliminate the water.

In at least one example, the membrane is acoustically transparent and the membrane is air permeable and water impermeable. In addition, the support mesh can be less flexible than the membrane such that the support mesh structurally supports the membrane.

Abstract: An electronic watch includes a housing and a crown assembly including a rotatable actuation member. The rotatable actuation member includes a knob external to the housing and configured to receive a rotational input and a shaft assembly coupled to the knob and positioned at least partially within the housing, the shaft assembly defining a sensing surface configured to rotate in response to the rotational input. The electronic watch further includes an optical sensing system configured to detect the rotational input, the detecting including directing light onto the sensing surface, receiving reflected light from the sensing surface, and producing a signal corresponding to a rotational motion of the sensing surface, the signal based at least in part on an interference between the light directed onto the sensing surface and the reflected light.
