Various embodiments relate to a filtration system. The filtration system includes a housing having a drain. A filter element is positioned within the housing. The filter element comprises a first endplate and a second endplate. Filter media is positioned between the first endplate and second endplate. A dual lip seal member is coupled to the second endplate. The dual lip seal member includes a first protrusion that extends radially outward around an outer surface of the dual lip seal member. A second protrusion extends radially outward around the outer surface of the dual lip seal member. The dual lip seal member is configured to prevent fluid to be filtered from exiting the housing through the drain when the filter element is in an installed position. The dual lip seal member permits residual fluid to exit the housing through the drain when the filter element is displaced from the installed position.

The cover is removably coupled to the base. The filter element is removably installed within the base when the cover is coupled to the base. The filter element includes filter media and an endplate coupled to one end of the filter media. The endplate includes an outer perimeter and one or more engagement features protruding from the outer perimeter. The one or more engagement features engage the one or more retainer features in the cover upon installation of the endplate into the cover, thereby coupling the endplate to the cover.

The containment cover defines a cover opening, a cover surface, and a flow passage. The cover opening is in fluid communication with the housing. The cover surface is substantially continuous around a circumference of the containment cover. The cover surface includes an open portion in fluid communication with the second housing opening. The flow passage is formed by a first passage surface and a second passage surface. The flow passage includes a first end in fluid communication with the cover opening. A second end is in fluid communication with the second housing opening through the open portion of the cover surface. The flow passage extends radially outward from the cover opening.
Abstract:
A replacement filter element having a removable pin attached to the filter element is described. The removable pin is attached to the filter element via a first interference fit. When the replacement filter element is installed into a filtration system having a drain valve with an internal draft, the removable pin seals onto the drain valve and forms a second interference fit between the drain valve and the pin. The pin seals an opening in the drain valve. The second interference fit is stronger than the first interference. Accordingly, when the replacement filter element is removed from the filter housing (e.g., during a service event of the replacement filter element), the pin detaches from the replacement filter element and remains positioned within the drain valve thereby preventing fluid from leaking from the housing when the filter element is removed. The pin permanently plugs the drain valve once installed.

A fuel filter system that does not require the periodic draining of a water sump. The system includes a fuel tank for storing fuel and a fuel filter fluidly coupled to the fuel tank for separating water from the fuel. A fuel pump has a suction side and a high pressure side. The high pressure side of the fuel pump is fluidly coupled to the fuel filter for pumping fuel to the fuel filter. A water emulsifier, such as an orifice, is fluidly coupled to the fuel filter to receive water and fuel from the fuel filter and form a water-fuel emulsion. The water-fuel emulsion is supplied to any point in the system on the suction side of the fuel pump, such that the water-fuel emulsion passes through the fuel pump and fuel filter.

A fuel filtration system configured to separate water from fuel is described. The system includes a housing having an inlet for receiving fuel to be filtered, an outlet for supplying filtered fuel to a device, and an internal compartment having a drain. A filter media is positioned within the internal compartment of the housing, the filter media configured to separate the water from the fuel, the separated water routed out of the internal compartment through the drain. A solenoid valve is configured to provide both the separated water and fuel to an exhaust after-treatment device in fluid communication with the fuel filtration system.

A filter cartridge for use within a filter housing of a filter assembly that includes a filter media, a first endplate attached to a first end of the filter media, and a second endplate attached to a second end of the filter media. The second endplate includes a plurality of extensions extending axially away from a surface of the second endplate. The plurality of extensions possess a toothed profile and are sized and positioned so as to engage with at least one rib associated with a portion of the filter housing such that, when at least one of the plurality of extensions is engaged with the at least one rib, a rotation of the portion of the filter housing in a first direction results in a corresponding rotation of the filter cartridge.

One embodiment is a filter element including an outer filter media and an inner filter media. The outer filter media is operable to remove particulates present in a flow of fluid and/or coalesce water contained in the flow of fluid. The inner filter media is operable to remove particulates from the flow of fluid, separate water form the flow of fluid, and remove particulates from the flow of fluid. Other embodiments include unique apparatus, devices, systems, and methods relating to fuel filters and filtration. Abstract:
Various embodiments disclosed herein relate to a filter element having a seal that functions as an anti-drain seal. The seal prevents fluid being filtered (e.g., fuel) from flowing back to a fluid storage tank (e.g., a fuel tank) through a drain in the filter housing when the filter element is in an installed position within the filter housing. The seal and the filter housing allow fluid to flow back to the fluid storage tank when the filter element is being removed from the filter housing (e.g., during a filter change service). The seal is removably coupled to the filter element such that the seal can be reused with replacement filter elements. The seal also functions as an engine integrity protection mechanism. Thus, the seal performs functions as a sealing device, draining device, and engine integrity protection feature.
