Abstract: A computer network efficiently provides a multicast network flow to a multicast recipient across a multihomed network element. The multihomed network element includes network devices that receive multicast data from a source of a multicast network flow. Each particular network device that received the multicast data publishes a notification indicating that the multicast network flow is available from the particular network device. The computer network receives a subscription to the multicast network flow from a multicast recipient, and determines whether to bridge the multicast data across the multihomed network element based on a multicast configuration of the computer network. The multihomed network element provides the multicast data to the multicast recipient from at least one of the particular network devices that received the multicast data from the source of the multicast network flow.

Abstract: Techniques for routing traffic across different virtual local area networks (VLANs) within a single bridge domain are described. One technique includes receiving at a first network device a packet from a second network device on a first interface of multiple interfaces within a bridge domain at the first network device. Attachment circuit information associated with the packet is determined. An information element that includes an indication of the attachment circuit information is generated. The information element is transmitted to the third network device.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a mechanism for optimized application performance in SD-WAN, and includes the steps of receiving initial traffic packets at a first site for transmission to a second site; determining whether a direct tunnel is established between the first site and the second site based on a state of the second site, the state comprising an active state indicating that a direct tunnel is established between the first and second sites or an inactive state indicating that the direct tunnel is not established between the first and second sites; and in response to determining that the direct tunnel is not established, determining that the initial packets satisfy a configured trigger; forwarding the initial packets to the second site via a backup path; establishing the direct tunnel between the first and second sites; and forwarding subsequent traffic packets to the second site via the established direct tunnel.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a first computer networking device executes an election algorithm to determine whether at least the first computer networking device or a second computer networking device is responsible for forwarding, to at least one receiving device, communications addressed to a specified group of computing devices. The first computer networking device may further store first data indicating that the first computer networking device is responsible for forwarding the communications. However, in response to the first computer networking device determining that it is no longer receiving the communications, it may store second data indicating that the first computer networking device is no longer responsible for forwarding the communications and may send, to the second computer networking device, third data indicating that the first computer networking device is not receiving the communications.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a broadcast, unknown-unicast, or multicast (BUM) frame from a connected device, where the BUM frame is associated with a broadcast domain, determining a segment within the broadcast domain associated with the device, adding to the BUM frame a segment identifier that uniquely identifies the segment within the broadcast domain, and causing the BUM frame to be delivered to one or more recipient network apparatuses in a network associated with the broadcast domain, where the segment identifier added to the BUM frame is configured to be used by the one or more recipient network apparatuses to selectively forward the BUM frame to connected devices that are associated with segment identifier.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method by a first edge router includes receiving a request control message from a second edge router requesting a first identifier of a first group associated with a first host having a first Internet Protocol (IP) address, determining the first identifier of the first group based on the first IP address, sending a response control message to the second edge router including the first identifier of the first group, receiving a data packet destined to the first host from the second edge router, determining that a second group is a source group and the first group is a destination group of the data packet, applying one or more policies associated with a combination of the source group and the destination group to the data packet, and causing the data packet to be routed to the first host within the first site.
