Abstract: A system includes a controller configured to perform an enable operation responsive to receiving information indicative of an enable parameter, the enable operation includes: determining a predicted downstream NOx value of an exhaust gas stream exiting a NOx storage catalyst; determining a downstream NOx value of the exhaust gas stream exiting the NOx storage catalyst; determining an error between the predicted downstream NOx value and the determined downstream NOx value; comparing the error to an error threshold; and determining that the NOx storage catalyst is in good health responsive to determining that the error does not exceed the error threshold. The controller is further configured to perform a disable operation responsive to receiving information indicative of a disable parameter, the disable operation causing a deactivation of at least a portion of the controller.

Abstract: A method of calibrating a control system based on a parametric value of a component. The method includes receiving a current from a component of the control system. The component is communicatively coupled to a controller and has a parametric resistor with a parametric resistance value correlating to a parametric value associated with the component. The method further includes determining the resistance value of the parametric resistor by measuring a parametric voltage rating from the current. The method further includes mapping the resistance value to the parametric value associated with the component. The method further includes generating a calibration data set. The calibration data set is based on calibrating the control system to calibrate for the parametric value. The method further includes transmitting a signal to the component. The signal is based on the calibration data set and is configured to calibrate operation of the component.

Abstract: An exhaust aftertreatment system includes a cross-flow selective catalytic reduction catalyst. The cross-flow selective catalytic reduction catalyst includes a housing and a substrate assembly. The substrate assembly includes a plurality of first substrate layers defining a plurality of first flow channels and a plurality of second substrate layers defining a plurality of second flow channels. The exhaust aftertreatment system includes a passive NOx adsorber. The passive NOx adsorber includes a housing. The housing includes an inlet in exhaust gas receiving communication with the plurality of first flow channels of the cross-flow selective catalytic reduction catalyst. The housing includes an outlet in exhaust gas providing communication with the plurality of second flow channels of the cross-flow selective catalytic reduction catalyst. The passive NOx adsorber includes a substrate positioned in the housing. The substrate includes a passive NOx adsorber washcoat.

Abstract: A system includes a controller configured to store a relationship matrix of a plurality of diagnostic estimators and a plurality of failure modes, each failure mode represents a type of failure that can occur with (i) a sensor or (ii) a vehicle component of a vehicle system, each diagnostic estimator is associated with a respective subset of the failure modes, each respective subset defines a control volume within the vehicle system that contains at least one of (i) one or more sensors or (ii) one or more vehicle components; store a healthy diagnostic vector regarding nominal operational parameters of the vehicle system; acquire diagnostic information regarding current operational parameters of the vehicle system to generate an error diagnostic vector; divide the error diagnostic vector by the healthy diagnostic vector to generate a ratio diagnostic vector; multiply the ratio diagnostic vector with the relationship matrix to generate a value for each failure mode.

Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus relating to operating an internal combustion engine include steps or features for determining a performance threshold of a particulate filter disposed in an exhaust gas flow of the engine having a set time interval between regeneration events of the particulate filter; determining a rate at which the particulate filter is reaching the performance threshold; and controlling an exhaust gas characteristic to control the rate so that the performance threshold is reached at or just before an end of the time interval. In an embodiment, there are steps or features for interpreting a filter condition of the particulate filter; determining a particulate matter load rate of the filter as a function of the condition; determining a limit of an exhaust gas characteristic based on the load rate; and controlling engine operation to control the exhaust gas characteristic to satisfy the limit.

Abstract: An exhaust gas aftertreatment system for an internal combustion engine includes an inlet conduit, a reductant decomposition chamber, a first selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst member, a second SCR catalyst member, a mixing chamber, a particulate filter, a reductant delivery system, and a hydrocarbon delivery system. The inlet conduit is configured to receive exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine. The reductant decomposition chamber is fluidly coupled to the inlet conduit and configured to receive the exhaust gas from the inlet conduit. The first SCR catalyst member is fluidly coupled to the reductant decomposition chamber and configured to receive the exhaust gas from the reductant decomposition chamber. The second SCR catalyst member is fluidly coupled to the first SCR catalyst member and is configured to receive the exhaust gas from the first SCR catalyst member.

The controller is structured to interpret, via a pump diagnostic circuit, first and second pump parameters indicative of first and second pump rates, interpret, via a dosing diagnostic circuit, first and second dosing parameters indicative of at least one of (i) first and second reductant flows or (ii) first and second injector characteristics, determine, via a delivery diagnostic circuit, a delivery status based, at least in part, on the interpretation of the first and second pump parameters and the first and second dosing parameters, and generate, via the delivery diagnostic circuit, a status command indicative at least one of an under-restricted delivery mechanism or an over-restricted delivery mechanism in response to the determination of the delivery status.

Abstract: A selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst is disposed in an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine. A reductant injector is coupled to the exhaust gas stream at a position upstream of the SCR catalyst, and first and second NOx sensors provide NOx measurements upstream of and downstream of the SCR catalyst, respectively. A system and method is disclosed for operating the system to determine a NOx amount and/or a NH3 slip amount downstream of the SCR catalyst by decoupling NOx-NH3 measurements from the output of the second NOx sensor to provide control of the reductant injection amount.
