Abstract:
In accordance with a first aspect of the present invention, a method of customizing the browsing experience of a user of a Web site comprised of a plurality of Web pages is provided. Each Web page is indexed using at least one coding system. A user record for each user is maintained on the Web site, which contains personal information of the user coded in accordance with said coding system. The user's browsing experience on the site may thus be readily customized using the user's personal information via code comparison. In accordance with a second aspect of the present invention, a method of ensuring the privacy of the user's personal information is provided through use of a unique Universal Anonymous Identifier (UAI) assigned to each user by a third party registration authority.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to transgenic plants resistant to parasites that their normal life cycle includes feeding on the plant cytoplasm, including insects, nematodes and fungi, wherein the plants are engineered to produce small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) capable of silencing a parasite specific gene. Particularly the parasite gene is a stage-specific gene, more particularly a gene involved in essential, early developmental stages of the parasite in or on the plant.
Abstract:
An externally testable redundant connection for a subsea well includes a tube, a connector assembly, and collar. The connector assembly includes a jam nut over the tube; a ferrule over the tube adjacent the jam nut; and a double jam nut disposed over the tube adjacent to the ferrule. The double jam nut includes a test port adapted to receive a test fluid through the test port for determining if the primary seal and the secondary seal are providing a leak proof sealing engagement. The collar engage the tube and transfers an axial force from the double jam nut and compresses the tube into a female profile forming a primary seal. A secondary seal is formed from a compression of the ferrule into the double jam nut using the jam nut.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of controlling a plurality of beam patterns radiated by a base station in a wireless communication system. The method includes receiving at least one signal from a mobile station at the base station, determining estimated attributes of the at least one signal received by the base station. Smoothed versions of the estimated attributes are calculated in accordance with a predetermined set of criteria are calculated. A set of weighted signal parameters are generated to describe a polarization state of the at least one signal received from the mobile station. The generated weighed signal parameters are applied to a signal transmitted by the base station such that the transmitted signal substantially matches the polarization state of the at least one signal from the mobile station.
Abstract:
The self energizing tube connector for engaging a pressurizable part made of a tube capable of sustaining pressures up to 50,000 psi without deforming is made of an upstream tube end and a downstream tube end; a ferrule with a front and rear ferrule, a lifting component that engages the front ferrule to cause a upstream seal to form between pressurizable part and tube, and a downstream seal to form between the front ferrule and the tube; and a coupling nut for sliding over the tube and disposed downstream of the rear ferrule for engaging the pressurizable part, wherein the coupling nut is adapted to tighten against the rear ferrule, front ferrule, and lifting mechanism to compress the rear ferrule, front ferrule, and lifting mechanism against the pressurizable part and the tube.
Abstract:
A method and system for maximizing wavelength reuse in an optically protected wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) network, the WDM network supporting a plurality of service connections, includes associating service connections supported by non-overlapping paths to form respective service channel groups, and for each service channel group, assigning at least one common wavelength channel for establishing the service connections. In addition, for each of said groups, at least one common wavelength channel is assigned for establishing a shared protection path for the service connections of each of said groups. In addition, the wavelength channels assigned for establishing the shared protection paths for each of the groups may be used for providing service connections for the WDM network when not in use as shared protection paths. However such provisional service connections are dropped when the wavelength channels are needed to establish shared protection paths. Such provisional service connections may be offered at reduced cost.
Abstract:
A braking member attachable to a sledder's boot is provided. The braking member includes a braking surface that is oriented at a specific ranges of angles with respect to the boot. In use, the braking surface engages the snow like an anchor as the sledder traverses snow covered terrain, thereby producing a braking force against sled forward movement. In one embodiment, the braking member is rotatably attached to the boot and is moveable between a first, walking position, and a second, braking position. In another embodiment, the braking member is fixed in the braking position.
Abstract:
A durable, rigid, low-cost device to sense an impact of a ball over a wide area and to provide response to a user that said impact has occurred. The sensing mechanism is a low-cost acoustic sensor, acoustically coupled to an essentially single sheet of plastic material. Sensor electronics filter the input and measure amplitude to determine if a valid hit has occurred. If so, the device reports an activate signal to the response electronics that in turn provide feedback to the user by playing a digitally recorded audio message, recorded specifically for the event. Variously, the activate signal may be transmitted to a remote device that contains the response electronics.
Abstract:
One end of a flexible cable of specified length attached to the end of a shaft and the other end attached to a light-weight and disengageable restraint anchor with a wedge-shaped cross section within a tube. The shaft cannot be removed from the tube, nor can cable be cut, because the anchor is located at a depth in tube greater than the specified length of cable. Anchor is comprised of an inner and an outer piece and operably attached to cable via the inner piece. Outer surface of outer piece essentially conforms to the tube inner diameter. During normal operation (random vibration and impact) the anchor is held in a specific location by a low-force radial force means comprised of a metal snap ring pressing outwards on outer piece. During an undesired removal, the inner piece and outer piece together provide a high-force radial constraint by means of wedge-shaped cross section such that any amount of tension on cable will be insufficient to move anchor from specified location. In order to remove shaft, the wedge-function of the inner and outer pieces are circumvented by reorienting the inner piece or an inner piece lock by electric, gravitational, or magnetic means, preferably by re-orienting the entire shaft and tube assembly in space.
