    Abstract: A surgical hub may have cooperative interactions with one of more means of displaying the image from the laparoscopic scope and information from one of more other smart devices. The surgical hub may have the capacity of interacting with these multiple displays using an algorithm or control program that enables the combined display and control of the data distributed across the number of displays in communication with the surgical hub. The hub can obtain display control parameter(s) associated with a surgical procedure. The hub may determine, based on the display control parameter, different contents for different displays. The hub may generate and send the display contents to their respective displays. For example, the visualization control parameter may be a progression of the surgical procedure. The surgical hub may determine different display contents for the primary and the secondary displays based on the progression of the surgical procedure.

    Abstract: Surgical instruments and control systems therefor are disclosed. A surgical instrument can comprise: a power circuit comprising a power source and a switch, a microcontroller coupled to the power circuit, a handle comprising an attachment portion, and a control circuit in signal communication with the microcontroller. The attachment portion can comprise a first electrical contact in signal communication with the microcontroller. The control circuit can comprise a sensor configured to detect an attachment state of the attachment portion. The control circuit can communicate the detected attachment state to the microcontroller, and the microcontroller can ignore signals from the first electrical contact when the control circuit communicates a detached state. The attachment portion can comprise a second electrical contact coupled to a second power circuit, and the second power circuit can decouple the second electrical contact and the second power source when the sensor detects the detached state.

    Abstract: An apparatus includes a body, a motor, a shaft, a stapling assembly, and an electrical potential shifting device. The body includes a firing switch configured to generate a motor drive signal including at least one of a motor activation signal portion or a motor deactivation signal portion. The motor includes a first power terminal and a second power terminal which define an electrical potential energy differential therebetween. The motor is configured to selectively activate and deactivate in response to the electrical potential energy differential. The first power terminal is coupled to a power supply and the second power terminal is coupled to the electrical potential shifting device. The electrical potential shifting device increases the electrical potential energy differential of the motor in response to detecting the motor activation signal portion and decreases the electrical potential energy of the motor in response to detecting the motor deactivation signal portion.

    Abstract: A surgical stapler. The surgical stapler includes a drive system, an electric motor, a battery and a control system. The electric motor is mechanically coupled to the drive system. The battery is electrically couplable to the electric motor. The control system is electrically connected to the electric motor and includes an H-bridge circuit, an electrically resistive element and an electrically inductive element. The H-bridge circuit includes a high side and a low side. The low side of the H-bridge circuit includes first and second switching devices. The electrically resistive element is electrically connected in series with the first switching device. The electrically inductive element is electrically connected to the electrically resistive element. The control system is configured to control a force applied to the drive system based on a current downstream of the electrically resistive element.
