Abstract: A hybrid vehicle propulsion includes an engine and a first electric machine, where each is configured to selectively provide torque to propel the vehicle. The propulsion system also includes a second electric machine coupled to the engine to provide torque to start the engine from an inactive state. A high-voltage power source is configured to power both of the first electric machine and the second electric machine over a high-voltage bus. The propulsion system further includes a controller programmed to deactivate the engine and propel the vehicle using the first electric machine in response to the vehicle being driven at a steady-state speed for a predetermined duration of time. The controller is also programmed to restart the engine using the second electric machine powered by the high-voltage power source.

Abstract: A charging system for use in providing power for charging a battery. The system includes a first, alternating-current-to-direct-current, stage and a second, direct-current-to-direct-current, stage. The first stage includes a single-phase diode rectifier for rectifying an input alternating-current input voltage, and a power-factor-correcting sub-circuit including a switch. The second stage includes multiple switches. The system further includes a high-frequency capacitor connected between the first stage and the second stage. The system also includes a controller connected to the switches of the first and second stages and configured to control, by way of the switches, timing of boost inductor current passing through the charging system.

Abstract: A charging box performs a direct current fast charging (DCFC) session of a recipient by a donor, e.g., during a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging session, and includes a portable housing, disconnect devices connected to a high-voltage (HV) bus to connect/disconnect respective inlet and outlet charging ports to/from the bus, and multiple direct current-to-direct current (DC-DC) converters. A high-voltage-to-high-voltage (HV-HV) converter is connected to the bus. An optional high-voltage-to-low-voltage (HV-LV) converter may be connected to the HV-HV converter. An optional low-voltage (LV) energy storage device is connected to the housing and HV-LV converter. A communication processing unit (CPU) establishes two-way communication between the donor and recipient. A system controller selectively pre-charges the bus, recharge the energy storage device, and selectively command offloading of a DC charging current from the donor, through the HV-HV converter, and to the recipient.

The first module includes a first switch coupled to the battery via a positive power rail, a second switch coupled to the battery via a negative power rail, and a third switch coupled to the second module. The second module includes another first switch coupled to the battery, another second switch coupled to the battery, and another third switch coupled to the first module. The first module includes four terminals and the second module includes another four terminals.

Abstract: An electric vehicle includes a system performing a method of charging a battery of the electric vehicle. The system includes an electrical motor having a rotor and a plurality of windings. The vehicle is turned off to allow the rotor to come to rest at an initial rotor position. The processor controls a current through the motor to rotate the rotor to locate a boundary of an electrical lash region associated with the rotor, determines a selected winding of the plurality of windings having a phase vector located close to the electrical lash region, deactivates the selected winding, controls flow of a first current through the motor with the selected winding deactivated to rotate the rotor towards a direction of the selected winding, and controls flow of a second current from a charging station to the battery through the electric motor with the rotor rotated towards the selected winding.
