Abstract: A rotor of an electric machine includes a rotor core, a plurality of permanent magnets located at the rotor core, and a rotor sleeve enclosing the rotor core and the plurality of permanent magnets. One or more sleeve cooling channels are positioned between a radially outer surface of the rotor core and a radially inner surface of the rotor sleeve and extend axially along a length of the rotor. One or more radial cooling channels extend radially outwardly from an interior of the rotor core to the one or more sleeve cooling channels. The one or more radial cooling channels are configured to convey a flow of cooling fluid from the interior of the rotor core to the one or more sleeve cooling channels.

Abstract: A thermal management includes an inductor, a housing in thermal communication with the inductor, the housing defining a wall, and a conductor. The conductor has greater thermal conductivity than the wall and is positioned within a groove and/or an aperture formed in the wall. The conductor is configured to conduct heat through the wall more efficiently than if the conductor were not present. A method of manufacturing a thermal management system includes forming a housing by additive manufacturing. The housing defines a wall having at least one of a groove and an aperture defined therein. The method includes positioning a conductor in at least one of the groove and the aperture. The conductor has a greater thermal conductivity than the wall. The method includes positioning an inductor into thermal communication with the housing.

Abstract: A method of detecting electrical arc damage includes receiving input indicative of electrical power as a function of time in an electrical arc. The method includes using the input to model an amount of damage caused by the electrical arc, and comparing the amount of damage to a predetermined threshold. The method includes flagging a warning in response to the amount of damage exceeding a predetermined threshold. The method can include breaking a circuit to stop the electrical arc. Flagging the warning can include signaling to an operator to inspect a unit potentially damaged by the electrical arc. The method can include inspecting the unit potentially damaged by the electrical arc.
