Abstract: According to one embodiment, a photovoltaic cell device includes a transparent substrate including a first side surface, a second side surface, and a third side surface, a first liquid crystal layer, a second liquid crystal layer, a first photovoltaic cell opposed to the first side surface, a second photovoltaic cell opposed to the second side surface, and a third photovoltaic cell opposed to the third side surface. Abstract: According to one embodiment, a polarization conversion element includes a first light guide including a first main surface and a side surface, a transmissive first polarization grating opposed to the side surface, and a reflective second polarization grating opposed to the first main surface. The first polarization grating is configured to diffract first circularly polarized light of unpolarized incident light and to diffract second circularly polarized light which rotates in a direction opposite to the first circularly polarized light in a direction different from the first circularly polarized light. The second polarization grating is configured to reflect the first circularly polarized light on the reflective surface.

Abstract: A display device includes: a display panel with pixels; a light source with light emission points; an acquirer configured to acquire viewpoint information; and a controller configured to control image display based on the viewpoint information on positions of viewpoints and an arrangement direction of the viewpoints. The controller is configured to drive some or all of pixels positioned on straight lines each connecting a corresponding one of the light emission points to a corresponding one of the viewpoints based on a relative rotation angle between the display panel and the arrangement direction and a relative positional relation between the viewpoints and the light emission points. The light emission points are individually switchable between a turned-on state and a turned-off state. A pitch of the light emission points is smaller than a pitch of light emission points controlled to be turned on when outputting an individual image to each viewpoint.

Abstract: The display device includes an image display panel emitting linearly polarized light from a display area, a retardation plate on the image display panel, a variable phase difference element located on the retardation plate and providing phase difference to an incoming light, and a liquid crystal diffraction element on the variable phase difference element. The variable phase difference element is switchable between an on state, an off state, and an intermediate state, and the phase change of the intermediate state is smaller than the phase change of the on state. A first emission direction of a first emitted light in the on state, a second emission direction of a second emitted light in the off state, and a third emission direction of a third emitted light in the intermediate state are different from each other.
