Abstract: Soil binding and revegetation compositions useful for stabilizing soil and promoting vegetation or revegetation of soil comprise water, an endosperm, an iron compound, a strong base, and a fibrous material comprising at least two different types of fibers. The endosperm comprises the carbohydrate and protein portions of grains, seeds, or tubers. The strong base is reacted with the endosperm in the presence of water added in order to ionize the carbohydrate and protein of the endosperm and render them more soluble or dispersible in water. The iron compound promotes an electrochemical reaction that assists in the formation of a silicate crystal matrix when applied to soil. The fibrous material comprises at least two different types of fibers that promote adhesion to soil and soften and nourish the soil in order to promote the emergence of plant life and/or seed germination. Seeds may optionally be added to further promote vegetation or revegetation of denuded soils. A pH adjustor may be added to lower the pH of the soil binding and revegetation composition in order to improve handling ability and render the composition more compatible with soil.

Abstract: Sequences of items may be maintained using ordered locks. These items may correspond to anything, but using ordered locks to maintain sequences of packets may be particularly useful. One implementation uses a locking request, acceptance, and release protocol. One implementation associates instructions with locking requests such that when a lock is acquired, the locking mechanism executes or causes to be executed the associated instructions as an acceptance request of the lock is implied by the association of instructions (or may be explicitly requested). In some applications, the ordering of the entire sequence of packets is not required to be preserved, but rather only among certain sub-sequences of the entire sequence of items, which can be accomplished by converting an initial root ordered lock (maintaining the sequence of the entire stream of items) to various other locks (each maintaining a sequence of different sub-streams of items).

Abstract: The invention provides a plate handling system for use in an imaging system in which plates of recording media are fed through an imaging unit. The plate handling system includes an input portion for receiving a plate from the imaging engine, a first conveying assembly, a second conveying assembly, an intermediate portion and an output portion. The first conveying assembly extends from the input portion to the intermediate portion, and is provided to direct a plate along a first direction. The second conveying assembly extends toward the output portion of the plate handling system, and is provided to direct a plate along a second direction from the intermediate portion to the output portion. The second direction is generally perpendicular to the first direction.

Abstract: A dispenser for a volatile aromatic substance is provided which includes a closed container formed from a single blank of folded sheet material in which the aromatic substance is deposited. The blank is folded to form a plurality of coacting interior and exterior walls, one of the walls having a tab form which is broken along a line of weakness to expose at least one vent passage in an underlying interior wall through which the vapors of the aromatic substance may pass. The tab form is hingedly connected to the blank so that it will not be removed therefrom and in one embodiment, coacts with a vent passage so that the tab form is displaced from underlying interior walls to modulate the circulation of vapors flowing from the vent passages. A hermetic coating is provided to preserve the shelf life of the container, including the aromatic substance deposited therein.

Abstract: A watthour meter socket adapter includes a housing with electrical contacts which receive the terminals of a watthour meter and terminals which are insertable into the contacts of an electrical watthour meter socket. First and second seal connectors sealingly connect the adapter housing to the socket and a watthour meter to the adapter housing to control access to the socket, adapter and watthour meter. The interface connection includes an electrical connector mounted in an enclosure and connected to the contacts in the adapter housing to provide electrical power to an external interface. A third seal is connected and attached to the enclosure to control access to the electrical connections housed therein. In one embodiment, the enclosure is separate from and mounted on the adapter housing. In another embodiment, the enclosure is in the form of a sleeve mounted internally within the adapter housing with an open end allowing connection to an external electrical device. A body housing a voltage convertor is removably insertable into the sleeve in the socket adapter housing to convert the electrical power provided to the electrical power connector from AC to DC and to a different voltage level.
