Abstract: A method for calibrating eye tracking data for a head wearable optical device includes receiving eye tracking data from an imaging device oriented towards a combiner. The method includes determining a gaze direction of an eye of a user based on the eye tracking data. The method includes receiving calibration data from the imaging device that includes an indication of positions of one or more calibration indicators. The method includes determining the gaze direction based at least in part on the calibration data received from the imaging device (or factors adjusted by the calibration data).

Abstract: A near-eye optical device includes a transparent layer, an in-field illuminator, and a diffractive optical element (DOE). The in-field illuminator is configured to emit near-infrared light centered around a first wavelength. The diffractive optical element is configured to be illuminated by the near-infrared light emitted by the in-field illuminator. The DOE generates a structured light projection that includes dots that expand as the structured light projection propagates farther from the DOE. The structured light projection is directed to illuminate an eyebox.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments are generally directed to optical systems. The optical systems may include a proximal lens that may transmit light toward an eye of a user. The optical systems may also include a distal lens that may, in combination with the proximal lens, correct for at least a portion of a refractive error of the eye of the user. The optical systems may further include a selective transmission interface. The selective transmission interface may couple the proximal lens to the distal lens, transmits light having a selected property, and does not transmit light that does not have the selected property. The optical system can also include an accommodative lens, such as a liquid lens. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Abstract: An optical system includes an illumination layer, an optical combiner, and an active optics block. The illumination layer includes an array of point light sources configured to emit calibration light. The optical combiner is configured to pass visible light to a front side of the optical system and to direct the calibration light to a camera that generates an image in response to the calibration light. The image includes an array of points corresponding to the array of point light sources. The active optics block includes an adjustable lens disposed between the illumination layer and the optical combiner and is configured to pass the calibration light to the optical combiner and to focus the visible light. The active optics block is further configured to adjust an optical power of the adjustable lens based on the image of the array of points.

Abstract: An optical assembly is configured to receive visible scene light at the backside of the optical assembly and to direct the visible scene light on an optical path toward the eyeward side. The optical assembly includes a dimming layer disposed on the optical path and includes a photochromic material that is configured to darken in response to exposure to a range of light wavelengths. An illumination layer is also disposed on the optical path and is configured to propagate an evanescent activation light within the illumination layer. The illumination layer is also configured to leak the evanescent activation light towards the dimming layer to activate a darkening of the photochromic material of the dimming layer to dim the visible scene light.
