    Abstract: A virtual, augmented, or mixed reality display system includes a display configured to display virtual, augmented, or mixed reality image data, the display including one or more optical components which introduce optical distortions or aberrations to the image data. The system also includes a display controller configured to provide the image data to the display. The display controller includes memory for storing optical distortion correction information, and one or more processing elements to at least partially correct the image data for the optical distortions or aberrations using the optical distortion correction information.

    Abstract: A method of generating foveated rendering using temporal multiplexing includes generating a first spatial profile for an FOV by dividing the FOV into a first foveated zone and a first peripheral zone. The first foveated zone will be rendered at a first pixel resolution, and the first peripheral zone will be rendered at a second pixel resolution lower than the first pixel resolution. The method further includes generating a second spatial profile for the FOV by dividing the FOV into a second foveated zone and a second peripheral zone, the second foveated zone being spatially offset from the first foveated zone. The second foveated zone and the second peripheral zone will be rendered at the first pixel resolution and the second pixel resolution, respectively. The method further includes multiplexing the first spatial profile and the second spatial profile temporally in a sequence of frames.

Image data itself is made of a plurality of image data frames, each with constituent color components of, and depth planes for displaying on, rendered content. Light sources or spatial light modulators to relay illumination from the light sources may receive signals from a display controlled to adjust a power setting to the light source or spatial light modulator based on control information embedded in an image data frame.

Additionally or alternatively, the assessment can include determining whether one or more features in the environment have moved, are moving and/or are expected to move relative to the head mounted display. The image processing can further include determining one or more virtual image content locations in the environment that correspond to a location where renderable virtual image content appears to a user when the location appears in the display and comparing the one or more virtual image content locations in the environment with a viewing zone.
