Abstract: An ear-wearable device includes a receiver that produces sound into an ear canal and an inward-facing microphone determining sound pressure resulting from: the sound reproduced by the receiver into the ear canal; and acoustical noise leaking into the ear canal. A structural vibration sensor is coupled to detect at least one of body-induced vibrations and receiver-induced vibrations and produce a sensed vibration signal in response. A sound processor of the ear-wearable device is operable to determine an error signal from the inward-facing microphone and determine an active noise cancellation (ANC) signal based on the error signal. The vibration signal is used to reduce the impacts of vibrations on ANC processing within the ear-wearable device.

Abstract: A hearing assistance device may be turned on or off in response to a change in magnetic field or detection of a gesture. A magnetic sensor may be used to identify a change in a magnetic field. An inertial measurement unit or other force sensor may be used to detect a gesture. In response to the magnetic field change or gesture, a hearing assistance device may be caused to change a device function or change a device power mode.

Abstract: A pair of communicatively coupled hearing instruments that may accept synchronous inputs from a user. The first hearing instrument may receive an input from a user. The second hearing instrument may receive an input from a user and exchange the input with the first hearing instrument over a communication link. The pair of hearing instruments may determine that the user has provided a synchronous input. In response to determining that the user has provided a synchronous input, the pair of hearing instruments may execute a synchronous command.

Abstract: An ear-worn electronic device comprising a housing configured to be worn in, at or about an ear of a wearer, audio processing circuitry disposed in or supported by the housing and comprising one or more microphones and an acoustic transducer, a controller disposed in the housing and coupled to the audio processing circuitry, and a power source disposed in the housing. A contact sensor is supported by the housing and coupled to the controller, the contact sensor configured to sense contact between the device and skin of the wearer. A physiologic sensor arrangement is coupled to the controller and configured to measure at least one physiologic parameter or physiologic condition of the wearer. The controller is configured to operate on signals received from the physiologic sensor arrangement in response to the contact sensor sensing contact between the device and the wearer's skin.

Abstract: An ear-wearable electronic device includes a first near-field communication (NFC) device and a transfer region configured to facilitate transfer of a wearable sensor unit into an ear of a wearer or onto an outer ear of the wearer or a surface of the wearer's head adjacent the outer ear. The wearable sensor unit comprises electronic circuitry comprising a second NFC device configured to communicatively couple to the first NFC device and facilitate wireless transfer of power from the ear-wearable electronic device to the wearable sensor unit and wireless transfer of data at least from the wearable sensor unit to the ear-wearable electronic device, and one or more sensors configured to measure at least one physiologic parameter or physiologic condition of the wearer. The wearable sensor unit and the ear-wearable electronic device are configured to remain mechanically decoupled from one another subsequent to deployment of the wearable sensor unit.
