Abstract: A projector includes a laser light source and a glass wheel. The laser source is configured to generate laser light. The glass wheel is optically coupled to the laser source. The glass wheel includes a first surface and a second surface. The first surface is configured to receive the laser light, and includes a light direction device optically coupled to the laser source. The second surface is opposite the first surface and is configured to emit light. The second surface includes a first arc of a phosphor deposited at a first distance from a center of the glass wheel. The light direction device is configured to direct the laser light to the first arc of the phosphor. The second surface also includes a second arc of the phosphor deposited at a second distance from the center of the glass wheel.

Abstract: In described examples, a system (e.g., a projection system) can include a diffractive optical element adapted to be illuminated by at least one coherent light beam. A lens array is coupled to receive a diffracted beam of light from the diffractive optical element. The lens array includes a first and a second array lens. The first array lens is coupled to receive a first sector of a pattern of illumination of the diffracted beam of light, and the second array lens is coupled to receive a second sector of the pattern of illumination of the diffracted beam of light. A spatial light modulator is coupled to receive overlapping diffracted beams of light from the first and second array lenses to form an image beam.

Abstract: An example projector includes: a first light source to provide first light; and a second light source to provide second light. A spatial light modulator produces: first modulated light by modulating the first light; and second modulated light by modulating the second light. An image direction device directs: the first modulated light to project a first image having a first pixel position; and the second modulated light to project a second image having a second pixel position.

Abstract: A projection system includes: an illumination source configured to output illumination light; a phase light modulator (PLM) optically coupled to the illumination source, the PLM configured to: receive the illumination light; phase modulate the illumination light while displaying a phase hologram, to produce modulated light; and projection optics coupled to the PLM, the projection optics configured to receive the modulated light and to project an image responsive to the modulated light; wherein both a mean in intensity and a variance in intensity in bright regions of the projected image is greater than the mean intensity and the variance in intensity in dark regions of the projected image.
