Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a release fluid, a fuser member and an image forming apparatus. The release fluid is a blend an amino functional silicone fluid and a non-functional silicone fluid. The amount of the amino functional silicone fluid is from about 10 weight percent to about 90 weight percent of the release fluid. The amount of the non-functional silicone fluid is from about 10 weight percent to about 90 weight percent of the release fluid. The amount of silanol (Si—OH) is less than 200 ppm in the release fluid.
Abstract:
A printer includes a drying unit that has a vacuum plenum and a drying belt with an exterior surface along which the media is transported through the drying unit. The drying belt has a plurality of holes extending through the drying belt, each hole in the plurality of holes having a diameter that is less than 300 microns. The drying unit further includes a heater configured to heat the media transported through the drying unit and a vacuum blower operably connected to the vacuum plenum. The vacuum blower is configured to generate a negative pressure in the vacuum plenum that holds the media on the exterior surface of the drying belt by the negative pressure acting through the plurality of holes without producing temperature differentials in the media on the belt that result in noticeable image quality defects.

Abstract:
3-D printing transfers build material and support from an intermediate transfer belt (ITB) to a platen. The build material is the same as the support material, except that the build material includes a photoinitiator and the support material does not. The platen moves to make contact with the ITB, and the ITB transfers successive layers of build material and support material each time the platen contacts the ITB. The platen and a portion of the ITB that is adjacent the platen are heated prior to the platen contacting the ITB, and the same is exposed so as to crosslink polymers of build material, without crosslinking polymers of support material. The polymers of build material being crosslinked and the polymers of support material not being crosslinked makes the support material selectively soluble in a solvent.
Abstract:
A printing system for forming three-dimensional objects includes two laterally spaced rails, each of the rails have an internal cavity extending through the rail along a longitudinal axis. The printing system further includes two heating devices, one heating device is connected to the internal cavity of one of the two laterally spaced rails and the other heating device is connected to the internal cavity of the other of the two laterally spaced rails to enable each heating device to heat a surface of the rail in which the heating device is positioned. The printing system further includes a platform configured to move along the laterally spaced rails. The printing system also includes at least one of a pair of scrapers, wiper pads, and wiper blades mounted to the cart.
Abstract:
An apparatus detects inoperative inkjets during printing of three-dimensional objects. The apparatus includes an optical sensor with a predetermined focal plane. The optical sensor is moved to a position that enables the sensor to generate image data of material drops ejected by a group of inkjets in a single row of a printhead. These image data are analyzed to detect inoperative inkjets to enable printhead maintenance at appropriate times to maintain the operational status of the inkjets in the printhead. The optical sensor is moved along a length and width of the printhead to enable the sensor to generate image data of all the inkjets that eject material from the printhead.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for cleaning an imaging surface of a printing system by way of a cleaning member having a nanowire mesh portion configured to contact the imaging surface.
Abstract:
An aqueous ink printer is operated to insert media sheets from a first supply tray into a plurality of media sheets from a second tray on which ink images are being formed by the printer to absorb condensed vapors on media guides. The media sheets from the first tray are uncoated media and the media sheets from the second tray are coated media. In some embodiments, the inserted media sheets are printed with an ink image that has areas that contact the media guides with a greater ink density than other areas of the ink image that do not contact the media guides. Additionally or alternatively, the inserted media sheets are printed with an ink image that has areas that contact the media guides with an ink color that is different than an ink color used in other areas of the ink image that do not contact the media guides.
Abstract:
A support material toner particle for use in xerographic additive manufacturing includes a PVA polymer blend including a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer and blend-additives including a chitosan and a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), the amount of blend-additives is selected to adjust the Tg of the PVA polymer blend to be within about 1° C. to about 20° C. of a desired build material toner Tg. A xerographic toner system includes a build toner material and a support toner material, the support toner material includes a PVA polymer blend including a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer and blend-additives including a chitosan and a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), the amount of blend-additives is selected to adjust the Tg of the PVA polymer blend to be within about 1° C. to about 20° C. of the build material toner Tg. A method of making a support toner material includes blending polyvinyl alcohol with blend additives including a chitosan and polyvinylpyrrolidone and forming support toner particles after the blending step.
