Abstract:
The present invention concerns a powder metal composition for producing powder metal components comprising a Co-based pre-alloyed powder, with irregularly shaped particles comprising at least 15% by weight Cr and less than 0.3% by weight C, admixed with graphite. The invention also concerns a method for producing PM components by pressing of articles to shape from the powder metal composition according to the invention and sintering them.
Abstract:
A tablet formed by prealloys iron-aluminum produced from atomized powders to be used as additive element in aluminum alloys, is manufactured by the method having the steps of obtaining a metallic alloy by fusion of iron and aluminum with the iron and aluminum added in an electric arc or induction furnace, atomizing the melted alloy by transporting the melted alloy to an intermediary container with an opening as a metal flux controlled by a valve located in the opening for controlling and proportionating a continuous flux and supplying a jet of water under pressure when the liquid metal drains to provide atomization and to produce small droplets that cool in water, solidify and are deposited as a powder; reducing humidity of the powder; classifying the thusly produced material, and compacting a thin fraction of the material for obtaining tablets; a tablet.
Abstract:
An agglomerated stainless steel powder composition for use in rigid-die powder metallurgy is provided. The composition preferably comprises a pre-alloyed water atomized stainless steel powder and a water-soluble binder. It exhibits minimal dusting, segregation, and die galling, has good compressibility and flow rate, and produces a finished part essentially free of non-metal residues. Methods for making this agglomerated stainless steel powder composition are also provided. Improved stainless steel rigid-die powder metallurgical parts are also provided.
Abstract:
Water-atomized iron powder for powder metallurgy having a hardness of particle cross section of from about Hv 80 or higher to about 250 or lower, the iron powder having been atomized with water and dried, and having a particle surface covered with oxides which are reducible in a sintering atmosphere, and which has an oxygen content of 1.0 wt. % or less. The water-atomized ion powder can be made by an improved and simplified processing, and the cost of resulting sintered products is decreased as a result of its use.

A low-carbon ferrochrome alloy containing a decreased amount of nitrogen can be made by this method. This method is conducted in a hydrogen stream and does not necessitate use of vacuum technique. A product of high purity can be obtained relatively simply and economically.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing spherical hollow particles by providing a large number of individual linear water jets arranged in a ring and converging at a single point, and passing a molten metal through this ring of water jets and converging point.
Abstract:
A method for preparing metal powder by water atomization is disclosed. The method includes the steps of smelting, atomization, separation and drying, and the metal powder is freeze-dried in the drying step. Experiments show that freeze-drying is an important factor affecting oxygen content indexes of copper and copper alloys, and can be applied to the preparation of copper and copper alloy powder and even metal powder with low oxygen content. The method further considers all the details that may cause oxidation during the atomization process, and takes comprehensive measures to greatly reduce the probability of oxidization of copper and copper alloy powder, so that the oxygen content and oxidation of the water atomized powder are effectively reduced, and the water atomized powder is not easy to be oxidized during long-term storage.

A sintered duplex stainless steel, wherein the steel has a composition, wherein the microstructure of the sintered duplex stainless steel is characterized by austenite phase precipitated in ferrite phase.
Abstract:
The present invention is an atomization device for manufacturing metal powder by spraying a fluid to molten metal, said device comprising: a tundish into which the molten metal is poured and discharged from a discharge nozzle installed on a bottom part; fluid spray nozzles disposed below the tundish and spraying the fluid to the molten metal dropping from the tundish; a means for measuring a molten-metal surface height inside the tundish from an image obtained by imaging the inside of the tundish; and a means for, upon calculating an amount of the molten metal to be poured into the tundish from the molten-metal surface height, discharging the molten metal in such a manner that the height is maintained substantially constant. The interior of the tundish is formed in such a shape that the area of the molten-metal surface of the poured molten metal increases with height in the vertical direction.
