Abstract: A method for the manufacture of coal-based carbon foams from a coal particulate starting material that comprises blending from 1 to about 10% by weight of pitch with the coal particulate before foaming. Abstract: Provided is an aerogel blanket and a method for producing the same, wherein a catalyzed sol is sufficiently and uniformly impregnated into a blanket in an impregnation tank, and the catalyzed sol is allowed to stay in the impregnation tank for a specific time to control fluidity while achieving a viscosity at which the catalyzed sol can be easily introduced into the blanket, thereby forming a uniform aerogel in the blanket. As a result, the uniformity of pore structure and thermal insulation performance of an aerogel blanket are improved, the loss of raw materials is reduced through the impregnation process, the occurrence of process problems is reduced, and the generation of dust is reduced.

Abstract: A concrete composition for use in construction that is free of cement includes calcium sulfate hemihydrate (CSH), polypropylene (PP) fiber, sand, retarders, and superplasticizers. The retarders include poly condensed amino acid and calcium (Ca) salt. The superplasticizers include specially formulated polycarboxylate powder. Further, a method of using the concrete composition in one or more construction related activities (e.g., architectural applications) includes adding the concrete composition to water in a mixer, the concrete composition including CSH, PP fiber, sand, a retarder, and a superplasticizer; and blending the concrete composition with water in the mixer for a first predetermined amount of time. The method further includes mixing the concrete composition with water at a predetermined sheer in the mixer for a second predetermined amount of time. The method excludes the steps of steam curing, accelerated curing, and water curing that are used in conventional solutions.

Abstract: The current invention is a novel addition to the field and comprises a self-sensing high performance fiber reinforced Geopolymer composite (HPFR-GPC) with self-sensing ability. In one or more embodiment, the self-sensing abilities are created by the addition of high performance fibers into a Geopolymer composites. The HPFR-GPC exhibits smart, high performance, energy efficient, and sustainability characteristics including: enhanced tensile ductility, toughness, and strain hardening (including crack width control); improved piezoresistive effects; utilization of industrial by-product; high resistance to acid attacks; and lightweight, low density. When compared to current available embedded or attachable sensors, the current invention offers lower cost, higher durability, and a larger sensing volume.

Abstract: Thermally conductive cementitious compositions for use in flooring installations that are applied over a heat radiating flooring system to increase the thermal conductance of the flooring system and increase the rate of heating the flooring system. The thermally conductive cementitious compositions include a cementitious composition, amorphous flake graphite carbon, and an aqueous solution suitable for use as a thermally conductive mortar, grout or adhesive for flooring installations. The thermally conductive cementitious compositions also include a cementitious composition, mesh fine aluminum oxide, mesh coarse aluminum oxide, and an aqueous solution that provides a thermally conductive mortar, grout or adhesive for use in flooring installations.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing an aerogel blanket in which, a surface of a base material for a blanket is activated and roughness and porosity of the surface of the base material for a blanket are increased to increase adhesion performance of a silica aerogel by inducing etching of a surface of a base material for a blanket using an acidic solution, and mechanical flexibility is increased and the generation of dust is minimized by further performing a gel deformation process of introducing cracks into the aerogel, and a low-dust and high-insulation aerogel blanket prepared according to the present invention.
