Abstract:
In a textile lifting sling or in a lashing strap thickened locations are provided at least on one side (7) of the sling in the longitudinal direction (2) of the sling so as project in the manner of longitudinal beads (6) or rows of nubs (9) beyond the outer surface (7) of the basic fabric of the webbing strap (5) or of the tube (4) so as to increase abrasion resistance.
Abstract:
This invention is a cut resistant article comprising a cut resistant jacket surrounding a less cut resistant member. The jacket comprises a fabric of yarn and the yarn consists essentially of a high strength, longitudinal strand having a tensile strength of at least 1 GPa. The strand is wrapped with another fiber or the same fiber.
Abstract:
An article containing an innerduct structure and a woven rope located within the innerduct structure. The woven rope an inner portion comprising a plurality of multifilament fibers in the length direction of the woven rope and a jacket portion covering the inner portion. The jacket portion contains a plurality of monofilament fibers in the length direction of the woven rope and at least one multifilament fiber in the circumferential direction interwoven with the monofilament fibers in the length direction of the jacket portion. The monofilament fibers of the jacket portion form the majority of the outer surface of the woven rope.
Abstract:
A rope cuff including a plurality of shoring lines attached to an interior surface and covered with an interior flap formed from a material with a high coefficient of friction is provided. The shoring lines are braided around a mooring line to serve as a chafe guard and the interior flap frictionally engages the mooring line to maintain both the chafe guard and the cuff in appropriate positions. An adjustable hook and loop strap is attached to the exterior surface of the rope cuff to constrict the cuff around the mooring line and provide further frictional engagement between the interior of the rope cuff and the mooring line.
Abstract:
A hoisting member for an elevator system includes a core having strength components embedded in a matrix material. A coating can surround the core to protect the core and control the coefficient of friction of the outer surface based on a range of desired friction properties to prevent or inhibit slippage of the hoisting member when used in a traction elevator system. The strength components may be made from carbon nanotube material with the matrix material made from a polymer material. The hoisting member may also include other conductive material or fiber optic material. The hoisting member may also serve as the trailing cable in an elevator system. In doing so the hosting member transmits power and data between the elevator car and the elevator controller thereby eliminating the need for a traditional trailing cable.
Abstract:
A protective cover for rope and an assembly of the protective cover installed on a rope. The protective cover has a fabric sleeve with a first sleeve end and a second sleeve end. One or more tethers are attached to and extend from proximate at least one of the sleeve ends. The one or more tethers provide resistance to motion of the sleeve relative to an underlying rope because the one or more tethers are interlaced with the strands of the rope. The one or more tethers are interlaced along a sufficient length of rope, with a sufficient number of tucks that the strands of the rope, under tension, will clamp upon the one or more tethers. The friction between the one or more tethers and the strands prevent movement of the cover or the tethers relative to the rope.
Abstract:
A product comprising a plurality of interlaced yarns wherein at least a first yarn having a tensile strength, having a value TS in N/tex, said first yarn containing a plurality of UHMWPE fibres having a titer, having a value T in den, wherein the ratio T/TS is at least 5 den.tex/N. The tensile strength is obtained by adjusting the drawing ratio or the UHMWPE filaments/fibres accordingly. The product shows resistance to abrasion. The product can be a rope or round slings, comprising a sheath/jacket comprising said first yarn.
Abstract:
A protective cover formed substantially of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene yarns and having first and second opposing edges connected by a high shear strength hook and loop fastener system. The high shear strength hook and loop fastener system includes areas of a plurality of high shear strength hooks along opposing edges of the cover and an intermediate disposable strip having a plurality of loops on both sides of the strip configured to be received between the areas having the plurality of hooks. The cover wraps around the sling so that a portion of the first edge and second edge overlap with the intermediate disposable strip to form the releasable connection. When the edges are released, the intermediate strip may be replaced, when worn, by a new intermediate strip with the remainder of the cover and fastener system being reusable.
