Abstract: A high efficiency configuration for a solar cell module comprises solar cells arranged in a shingled manner to form super cells, which may be arranged to efficiently use the area of the solar module, reduce series resistance, and increase module efficiency. Each super cell comprises a plurality of rectangular or substantially rectangular silicon solar cells arranged in line with long sides of adjacent silicon solar cells overlapping and conductively bonded directly to each other to electrically connect the silicon solar cells in series. A super cell may comprise a hidden tap contact pad located on a back surface of a solar cell located at an intermediate position along the super cell. In some variations the overlapping sides of adjacent silicon soar cells in a super cell are flexibly bonded to each other, and a flexible electrical interconnect is rigidly bonded to one of the solar cells.

Abstract: A solar cell is provided including a substrate having a front and back side, a metallization pattern deposited on the front side, the metallization pattern including a plurality of front side bus bars each including fingers extending therefrom, and a plurality of back side bus bars deposited on the back side. On the front side, one front side bus bar is formed along an edge of the front side of the substrate, and a remainder of the front side bus bars are unequally spaced across the substrate. On the back side of the substrate, only one back side bus bar is formed along an edge of the back side of the substrate, and a remainder of the back side bus bars are unequally spaced across the substrate.

Abstract: A solar cell includes a semiconductor substrate, one or more bus bar electrode, and a plurality of finger electrodes. The bus bar electrode and the finger electrodes are disposed on the semiconductor substrate. Conventionally, in a process of forming the finger electrodes by utilizing screen printing, offset may occur. Consequently, the finger electrodes cannot be connected to the bus bar electrode. According to the provided solar cell, the bus bar electrode is formed by using patterned silver and aluminum, to manufacture a wider bus bar electrode than the bus bar electrode in the conventional solar cell without increasing silver consumption, thereby resolving the problem of offset.

Abstract: A hybrid photovoltaic device (1) comprising a thin film solar cell (2) disposed in a first layer (21) comprising an array of vertically aligned nanowires (25), said nanowires having a junction with a first band gap corresponding to a first spectral range. The nanowires (25) form absorbing regions, and non-absorbing regions are formed between the nanowires. A bulk solar cell (3) s disposed in a second layer (31), positioned below the first layer (21), having a junction with a second band gap, which is smaller than said first band gap and corresponding to a second spectral range. The nanowires are provided in the first layer with a lateral density selected a such that a predetermined portion of an incident photonic wave-front will pass through the non-absorbing regions without absorption in the first spectral range, into the bulk solar cell for absorption in both the first spectral range and the second spectral range.
