Abstract: An audio device worn in a piercing in an ear of a user. The audio device extends through the piercing and includes a wireless communications unit disposed at a first end and a sound-production unit coupled to an opposite second end thereof. The signal path from a master device to the sound-production unit for producing audio outputs thus passes through the pinna of the ear. The sound-production unit may include an ornamental cover such that the device can be worn as jewelry. The speaker and the wireless communications unit may be removable from a body of the device to enable the body to be worn alone as jewelry and to allow replacement of the wireless communications unit with a wired connection. The device may include a control surface useable to provide inputs to the master device coupled to the device.

Abstract: Methods and systems to produce audio output signals from audio input signals. In one embodiment, a first portion of the audio input signals can be pre-processed, with the output used to modulate ultrasonic carrier signals, thereby producing modulated ultrasonic signals. The modulated ultrasonic signals can be transformed into a first portion of the audio output signals, which is directional. Based on a second portion of the audio input signals, a standard audio speaker can output a second portion of the audio output signals. Another embodiment further produces distortion compensated signals based on the pre-processed signals. The distortion compensated signals can be subtracted from the second portion of the audio input signals to generate inputs for the standard audio speaker to output the second portion of the audio output signals. In yet another embodiment, noise can be added during pre-processing of the first portion of the audio input signals.

Abstract: Wearable electronic device includes a neck loop worn on a neck with two electromechanical units; two in-ear earphones; two earphone cords. Each unit has an earphone cord winding mechanism including (i) a spool for winding the earphone cord; (ii) a double drive mechanism including an electric motor, a reducer, and a spiral spring; (iii) an engagement mechanism for engagement between the drive mechanism and the spool; and (iv) a lock mechanism. One unit has a motor control key for the electric motor and the lock mechanism. One end of the cords is connected to one of the earphones and the other end to one of the spools. The units are mechanically connected to each other to prevent twisting, and to the neck loop so that one of the units is on the left side of the chest, and the other electromechanical unit is on the right side of the chest.

Abstract: A ball and socket joint preventing rotation of the ball about the axis of radial symmetry of the socket and restricting rotation of the ball about both axes orthogonal to the axis of radial symmetry to a predetermined angular value. The ball is irregular in shape and has grooves that receive ridges in the socket to accomplish the axial rotational restriction. The interaction of socket shape with ball shape accomplishes the rotational restrictions about the orthogonal axes. An exemplary use is for joining headset ear cups to headset side pieces to provide flexibility to accommodate a wide range of head shapes and sizes. The ball is preferably made of one piece with the headset side pieces and the socket is preferably made of one piece with the shell of the ear cup. Embodiments for head-mounted headsets and helmet-mounted headsets are disclosed.
