Abstract:
The present invention relates to a phase shifting debarker. The shifting debarker generally comprises a phase shifting mechanism being powered by a main motor and being connected to an operative assembly by the mean of timing belts. The main motor is being configured to control, by the mean of a belt, the movement of the phase shifting mechanism which is being adapted to control the movement of the operative assembly by the mean of the timing belts. The operative assembly generally comprises an actuator ring and a main ring. The activation of the shifting mechanism creates a shift phase between the actuator ring and the main ring while rotating at the same speed.
Abstract:
The present invention is a debarking ring apparatus to prevent operational downtime of logs debarking by having two debarking rings placed on the same vertical plan, perpendicular to the flow of incoming and outgoing logs, and parallel to each other. Only one ring may be operational at a time. As such, maintenance may be done on one of the rings while the other is in operation. Debarking rings may have varying sizes and shapes independent from each other. Each debarking ring may further have its own frame, actuator and control and motorization modules. A sliding system, supported by a frame, may further direct the lateral displacement of both rings. Also presented is a method of processing logs through the debarking ring apparatus.
Abstract:
A cutting device includes a frame and a counter construction fitted in the frame. The cutting device also includes a force member rotatably supported to the frame and extending in the radial direction up to the counter construction, overlapping in the axial direction relative to the axis of rotation of the force member. In addition, the cutting device includes equipment for rotating the force member and thereby for cutting material in cooperation with the counter construction. The force member includes a profile for taking the material to be cut against the counter construction for cutting the material.

A butt flare reducing apparatus for logs is provided. The apparatus includes a machine frame, a stator ring assembly fixedly coupled to the machine frame, and a flare reducing tool adjustment assembly movably coupled to the stator ring assembly. The apparatus further includes an actuator coupled on one end to the machine frame and on the other end to the flare reducing tool adjustment assembly to move the flare reducing tool adjustment assembly between the opposing end positions, and a rotor assembly rotatably coupled to the stator ring assembly. The rotor assembly includes a rotor frame and at least one flare reducing tool movably coupled to the rotor frame to translate linearly toward and away from a longitudinal axis of rotation in direct correlation to movement of the actuator and flare reducing tool adjustment assembly to adjust a log processing diameter. Related methods are also provided.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a barking machine which comprises a frame (1), barking rotor (2), which is rotably mounted on the frame (1) and which barking rotor comprises a rotor frame (3), barking blades (4) mounted on the rotor frame (3), and a first power unit (5) mounted on the rotor frame (3) that is connected to the barking blades (T) for transferring the barking force into them. According to the invention, in the barking rotor there is arranged an adjustment device (6) movable with respect to the rotor frame, and a second power unit (7) which is mounted on the frame (3) for transmitting the barking force via the first power unit (5) to the barking blades (4). This solution enables one to adjust the barking depth of the barking blades without stopping the barking rotor.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a barking tool for barking machines of the type having a plurality of swinging arms, each being at an inner end pivotally mounted on an annular rotator which is rotatable about an axis of rotation, and each having at a free outer end a processing edge. The processing edge is defined between a front and a top surface, which is adapted, during barking, to make an acute angle with the circumferential surface of the log. The barking tool further has a bead, which is located on the top surface in an area adjacent to the end of the processing edge furthest down in the feeding direction. The bead is essentially arcuate in such a manner that its height above the top surface successively increases from an area adjacent to the processing edge perpendicularly backwards therefrom and, more specifically, the height is adapted such that the bead during normal barking is positioned between a certain minimum and a certain maximum, and preferably essentially uniform, distance from the barked circumferential surface of the log independently of its diameter.
Abstract:
An air-seal, air-cell rotary-ring-type log debarker which is capable of operating in two different operating modes. In one operating mode, the air seal is nonpressurized, and debarking tools in the debarker are under the actuation control solely of pressure-isolated charged air cells which are carried on the rotary ring in the debarker. In another operating mode, the seal between the rotor and stator is pressurized to allow fluid communication between the two, and tool actuation is under the combined control of the ring-carried air cells and of an external source of selectively variable fluid pressure.

Attitude control mechanism for a flexible bag component of a composite pneumatic chamber including a fixed section over which an inturned portion of a flexible bag pneumatic chamber section rolls includes a cantilever bag attitude control stem having its root anchored in a mounting closing the end of the flexible bag remote from the rigid pneumatic chamber section and extends through a central guide aperture of at least one frame mounted within the rigid pneumatic chamber section for substantially linear reciprocation guidance so as to prevent appreciable buckling of the flexible bag as it is contracted axially by movement of the mounting carrying the stem toward the rigid pneumatic chamber section.
Abstract:
A log de-barking machine comprising two hollow rotor type processing units, one having tools to cut helically through the bark, and the other one having tools to further subdivide the cut bark and to finally remove the bark from the log in the shape of comparatively small pieces, and further having means for advancing the logs axially thereof successively through the two hollow rotor type processing units.
Abstract:
A rotary ring-type log debarker has barking tools operated by double-acting air cylinders with air pressure supplied through solenoid valves from a pressure chamber in the rotor. During normal debarker operation the rotor pressure chamber is isolated from an external source of air pressure. Air is supplied to the rotor pressure chamber intermittently only when necessary to maintain or increase air pressure in the chamber through a pilot air-operated ring-type air seal between the rotor and its stator. The seal is loaded only during the addition of air to the rotor pressure chamber to minimize wear on the sealing surfaces. Positive, instantaneous opening and closing of the tools and changes in air pressure in the rotor pressure chamber are effected from a remote operator's console while the rotor is either rotating or stationary.
