Abstract:
Disclosed are synthetic lubricating oil compositions for turbine engines containing a major amount of aliphatic carboxylic acid esters having lubricating properties whose pour points are depressed by the incorporation of a synergistic mixture of minor amounts of at least one mineral oil with a methacrylic pour point depressant.
Abstract:
Lubricating oil additives having both dispersant and viscosity-index improving properties are prepared by reacting terpolymers of ethylene, a C.sub.3 to C.sub.8 alpha-olefin, and a non-conjugated diene with maleic anhydride and certain alkane polyols.
Abstract:
Lubricating compositions containing a terpolymer of ethylene, with an alkyl ester of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, and with an olefinically unsaturated compound containing either a phosphorus atom or a heterocyclic nitrogen atom exhibit good thermal stability, viscosity index, and dispersant properties.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an oil phase drilling fluid composition, additive, and process which is effective at high temperatures and pressures and which consists essentially of (1) a vinyl toluene-acrylate copolymer resin which is obtained by reacting (a) vinyl toluene, with (b) an acrylate moiety, selected from the class containing of methyl, ethyl, 2-ethyl-hexyl, butyl and dodecyl acrylates and methacrylates, (2) a water-in -oil emulsion and (3) asphalt particles.
Abstract:
Water-soluble salts (e.g., alkali metal, ammonium or watersoluble amine salts) of styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer halfesters are employed in aqueous solutions as coolants and lubricants for metal-working operations e.g., metal cutting and abrading. The copolymers are esterified with both a fatty alcohol having from 10 to 22 carbon atoms and a lower alkoxy polyethylene glycol. Metal-working lubricant compositions are also formulated which comprise these salts along with extreme pressure agents such as amine salts of fatty acids and organic phosphate esters. Other additives may also be employed in the lubricating compositions of this invention.
Abstract:
LUBRICANT COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING OIL-SOLUBLE COPOLYMERS OF ONE OR MORE ALKY ESTERS OF A C3-5 ALPHA, BETAVINYLIDENE MONOCARBOXYLIC ACID AND ONE OR MORE MONOHYDROXY ALKYL ESTERS OF A C3-5 ALPHA, BETA-VINYLLIDENE MONOCARBOXYLIC ACID, WHEREIN THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF THE CARBON ATOMS IN THE CH3-(CH2)N- GROUPS PRESENT IN THE ALKYL SIDE CHAINS, N BEING AT LEAT 9, IS FROM 12.5 TO 14.3, HAVE IMPROVED POUR POINTS, VISCOSITY INDICES AND DISPERSANT PROPERTIES.
Abstract:
WATER SOLUBLE POLYACRYLAMIDE POLYMERS NEUTRALIZED WITH AN ETHYLENE-MALEIC ANHYDRIDE COPOLYMER HAVE BEEN FOUND EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE AS A COMBINED LUBRICANT-COOLANT WHEN USED IN AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS IN METAL WORKING OPERATIONS.
Abstract:
Unsaturated cyclic keto acid may be prepared by cyclizing alken-2-yl dicarboxylic acid anhydride with Lewis acid catalyst in anhydrous Friedel-Craft solvent. Amides of these unsaturated cyclic keto acids useful as friction improvers in lubricating oils, may be prepared by reaction of an amine such as ethanolamine with an unsaturated cyclic keto acid.
