Abstract: A supercharged engine includes an engine body, an electric supercharger, a turbocharger, an EGR passage establishing communication between an exhaust passage downstream from a turbine of the turbocharger and an intake passage upstream from a compressor of the turbocharger, a fuel supply unit configured to supply fuel into a cylinder, and a controller configured to open the EGR passage and output a control signal to the electric supercharger to increase a boost pressure of the electric supercharger during acceleration of the vehicle in which an amount of the fuel supplied by the fuel supply unit is increased in response to an acceleration request signal.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a control apparatus and method for preventing boiling of an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler, the apparatus including a coolant inflow passage configured to allow coolant to flow into the EGR cooler, a coolant discharge passage having one end connected to the EGR cooler to allow the coolant cooling EGR gas to be discharged, an EGR valve positioned adjacent to the EGR cooler to control a flow rate of gas flowing into the engine, and a control unit configured to determine the flow rate of the coolant flowing into the EGR cooler according to a number of revolutions of the engine, determine an opening amount of the EGR valve, determine whether the EGR cooler is in a micro-boiling condition, and perform compensation to perform boiling prevention when the EGR cooler satisfies the micro-boiling condition.

Abstract: A compression ignition gasoline engine includes a fuel injection valve for injecting fuel containing gasoline as a main component into a cylinder; an EGR device operative to perform high-temperature EGR of introducing burnt gas generated in the cylinder into the cylinder at a high temperature; an octane number determination unit for determining whether fuel injected from the fuel injection valve has a prescribed octane number; and a combustion control unit for controlling the fuel injection valve and the EGR device in such a way that HCCI combustion occurs within the cylinder. The combustion control unit controls the EGR device, in at least a partial load operating range in which HCCI combustion is performed, in such a way that the EGR rate increases, as compared with a case where fuel is determined to have a prescribed octane number, when fuel is determined not to have a prescribed octane number.

In one example, a method may include adjusting intake throttle and exhaust waste-gate valve based on the operator torque demand and concurrently, scheduling exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and variable cam timing (VCT) based on a predicted torque shortfall ratio. The scheduling of EGR and VCT is independent of the actual position of intake throttle and exhaust waste-gate valve.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to exhaust treatment systems and engine systems. In one implementation, an engine system comprises an engine comprising an intake manifold and an exhaust manifold, the engine configured to combust a fuel-air mixture received via the intake manifold and produce a flow of exhaust gases via the exhaust manifold. The engine system also comprises a turbocharger comprising a turbine, an exhaust passageway fluidly connecting the exhaust manifold of the engine to the turbine and an intake passageway fluidly connected to the intake manifold of the engine for supplying the fuel-air mixture, a catalyzed member positioned along the exhaust passageway between the engine and the turbine, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) loop fluidly connected downstream of the catalyzed member and fluidly connected to the exhaust passageway and the intake passageway.

Abstract: An engine includes an air intake system, an exhaust system, a single-cylinder-sourced EGR system, an exhaust sensor that is disposed to monitor exhaust gas from the single one of the cylinders, and a diverter valve. A controller includes an instruction set that executable to determine operation of the engine in a fuel cut-off mode, discontinue fuel flow to the single one of the cylinders, divert exhaust gas from the single one of the cylinders to the air intake system, determine an airflow, temperature, and an equivalence ratio of the diverted exhaust gas from the single one of the cylinders, determine a mass flowrate of oxygen in the diverted exhaust gas, integrate the mass flowrate of oxygen in the diverted exhaust gas, and discontinue the diverting of the exhaust gas from the single one of the cylinders when the integrated mass flowrate of oxygen is greater than a threshold value.

Abstract: A control system for a compression-ignition engine is provided, which includes an engine configured to combust a mixture gas inside a combustion chamber by compression ignition, a fuel injector attached to the engine, a state function adjusting part attached to the engine and configured to adjust at least introduction of fresh air into the combustion chamber, a three-way catalyst provided in an exhaust passage of the engine, a wall temperature acquiring part configured to acquire a parameter related to a temperature of a wall of the combustion chamber, and a controller. A swirl flow is generated inside the combustion chamber to circle along the wall. When the wall temperature of the combustion chamber is below a given wall temperature, the controller sets an air-fuel ratio of the mixture gas substantially to a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio so as to remain within a purification window of the three-way catalyst.

The control system is adapted to issue an exhaust gas recirculation control signal for controlling an amount of recirculated exhaust gas via the exhaust gas recirculation assembly. The control system includes an exhaust gas recirculation controller adapted to determine the exhaust gas recirculation control signal independently of the boost pressure control signal. The exhaust gas recirculation controller has a second response time, wherein the first response time differs from the second response time.
