Abstract: A directory event system for providing timely event notifications of each data manipulation of a master directory database and for providing timely event notifications of each corresponding data replication to a replicate directory database is disclosed. The directory event system includes an event master server, one or more event service servers, and one or more event client servers. For an event client server having directory clients in electrical communication with the master directory database, the event master server provides an event notification to the event client server in response to a data manipulation of the master directory database by a directory service provider server. The master directory clients can immediately poll the master directory database for the manipulated data upon receipt of an event notification from the event client server. For an event client server having directory clients in electrical communication with the replicate directory database, the event master server provides an event message to an event service server in response to the data manipulation of the master directory database by the directory service provider server. The event message includes the event notification and the sequence number, and the event service server provides the event notification to the event client server upon a replication of the sequence number within the replicate directory database. The replicate directory clients can poll the replicate directory database for the manipulated data upon receipt of the event notification from the event client server.

Abstract: An adaptor is provided for a games console which allows users to gain access to interactive television services through the games console. The adaptor includes a television tuner for receiving broadcast television channels, a communications controller which controls communications between the adaptor and the games console and an interface for interfacing the adaptor to the games console. Abstract: A file is striped across multiple filers, file servers or other devices, to create a sparsely striped multi-component file. Each filer stores one sparse component. In particular, each component physically stores only those stripes allocated to that component. The other stripes are represented as holes. Thus, instead of contiguously packing each component's stripes at the block level, each component is a file having the same logical structure. A component of a sparsely striped multi-component file can be easily converted to a mirror by filling in its holes. Similarly, a mirror can be easily converted to one component of a sparsely striped multi-component file by removing or ignoring it unallocated stripes. In either case, the layout or logical of the component does not need to be reconfigured.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a computing node and a metadata server. The computing node may transmit a request to open a file to the metadata server, which may provide a corresponding file identifier to the computing node. The computing node may use the file identifier to directly access the storage storing the file. In one embodiment, the storage may be an object-based storage. The storage may receive the file identifier with an access command and may perform the mapping from file identifier to storage blocks internally. Thus, accesses to the storage may be performed on an arbitrary boundary within the file. In other words, the entire block including the data needed by the computing node may not be transferred to the computing node. Instead, the storage may select the data requested from the file (e.g. via an offset and a number of bytes or some similar mechanism) and return that data to the computing node.

Abstract: An anti-icing fluid suitable for ground treatment of aircraft, being a glycol-based, aqueous solution containing a hydrophobe-bearing, macromonomer-containing polymer thickener in an amount of less than about 5 weight %. Thickening occurs predominantly by association among hydrophobe groups. Thickening may be enhanced by addition of a surfactant or other materials which act as co-thickeners. Use of this thickened fluid does not adversely affect airfoil lift characteristics during takeoff, because the fluid exhibits shear thinning and readily flows off the aircraft surfaces when exposed to wind shear during the aircraft's takeoff run.
