Abstract: A pressure vessel for holding fluids includes a tank and a coating disposed on an outer surface of the tank. The tank defines a cavity for holding fluids, and an outer surface of the tank includes a first visual characteristic. The coating includes an indicator layer, an outer layer, and a first intermediate layer. The indicator layer is disposed on the outer surface, the indicator layer including a second visual characteristic that visually contrasts with the first visual characteristic. The outer layer is disposed over the indicator layer, the outer layer including a third visual characteristic that visually contrasts with the second visual characteristic. The first intermediate layer is positioned between the indicator layer and the outer layer, the first intermediate layer being visually transparent or translucent. The disclosure also describes a coating including an indicator layer, an outer layer, and a first intermediate layer.

Abstract: A pressure vessel includes a shell, a liner, and a boss. The liner is positioned within the shell and defines the interior environment. The boss is located at a first interface between the shell and the liner. The boss includes a cavity and a venting structure located in the cavity. The cavity is located at a second interface between the liner and the boss, and the cavity is located at an interior surface of the boss in communication with the interior environment. A gas vent path is defined from the first interface, through the venting structure, and into the interior environment of the pressure vessel. The disclosure also describes a boss for a pressure vessel and a method of manufacturing the boss. The boss includes a port, a flange, a cavity and a gas venting structure. The cavity and gas venting structure are located on an interior of the flange.

Abstract: An assembly includes a pressure vessel for containing a fluid, the vessel including a domed end portion having an outer surface; and a component positioned at the domed end portion, wherein the component is attached to the outer surface by a plurality of filament bands wound upon the domed end portion and over at least a part of the component. In another aspect, an apparatus is described for preventing damage to a vessel. The apparatus includes a component configured to be positioned at the domed end portion, wherein the component is configured to be attached to the outer surface by a plurality of filament bands wound upon the domed end portion and over at least a part of the component. A method for attaching a component to a vessel is described that includes positioning the component at the domed end portion and winding a plurality of filament bands.

Abstract: A boss for a pressure vessel has a flange. The flange includes an interior keyway having an inner sidewall and a plurality of bores disposed on the inner sidewall. A pressure vessel includes a main body section and an end section. The end section includes a boss and the boss includes a flange. The flange includes an interior keyway having an inner sidewall and a plurality of bores disposed on the inner sidewall. In another aspect, a pressure vessel includes an outer shell, and inner liner and a boss including a flange with an exterior side and an interior side. The liner is mechanically integrated with the flange via a plurality of anchors, each anchor contacting the flange only on the interior side. A method of forming a pressure vessel includes providing a boss having a flange. The flange has an interior keyway having an inner sidewall and a plurality of bores disposed on the inner sidewall. The method comprises allowing a fluid polymer material to flow into the interior keyway and into the plurality of bores.

Abstract: A sensor mounting assembly is configured for use with a vessel arrangement including at least four vessels. The assembly includes first and second elongated frame members, first and second rollers, and first and second sensors. The first sensor is attached to the first elongated frame member and is configured to contact the surface of the first vessel upon actuation in a first direction. The second sensor is attached to the second elongated frame member and is configured to contact the surface of the second vessel upon actuation in a second direction that is substantially orthogonal to the first direction. This disclosure also describes a method of mounting at least six sensors for use with a vessel arrangement including at least four vessels, the vessel arrangement disposed in a container in a two-by-two stacked configuration having a central space.

Abstract: A boss assembly for a pressure vessel includes a boss, a fitting, a first seal and a second seal. The boss includes a bore with an inner surface and a first stop feature. The fitting is configured for at least partial insertion into the boss to prevent fluid communication between an interior and an exterior of the pressure vessel, the fitting including an outer surface and a second stop feature. Each of the first and second seals is positioned along the outer surface. The fitting is movable between first and second positions. In the first position, the first seal is sealingly engaged between the inner and outer surfaces and the second seal is not sealingly engaged therebetween. In the second position, the first seal is not sealingly engaged between the inner and outer surfaces, the second seal is sealingly engaged, and the first and second stop features mutually contact.

Abstract: An apparatus is configured to be positioned between a boss and a shell of a pressure vessel. The boss includes a bore therethrough, and the bore has a longitudinal axis. The apparatus includes an annular body and a gas permeable feature. The annular body includes an inner surface configured to abut the boss and an outer surface configured to abut the shell. The annular body has opposite first and second ends relative to the longitudinal axis. The gas permeable feature is provided on the inner surface and extends at least from the first end to the second end. The disclosure also describes a pressure vessel including a shell, and boss, and an apparatus positioned between the boss and the shell. A method for forming a pressure vessel includes mounting a boss on a mandrel, positioning an annular fitting about a neck of the boss, forming a liner, and forming an outer shell.

Abstract: In assembly of a pressure vessel and mount, the pressure vessel has a diameter and a length and includes a substantially cylindrical body and a boss neck. The substantially cylindrical body has a domed end and tapers from a portion having the diameter to the boss neck at the domed end. The mount includes a central plate and first and second flanges. The central plate has an aperture therethrough configured to accept a portion of the boss neck. The first and second flanges are located at opposed first and second sides of the central plate, respectively, and are configured to extend toward the body. The assembly occupies no more than a rectangular prism space defined by the length, a width equal to the diameter, and a height equal to the diameter of the substantially cylindrical body.
