Abstract:
A refrigeration controller within a retail refrigeration cabinet controls the temperature (502) so that it approaches the maximum allowable temperature by using the most efficient fan speed for loading and time of day (507) but is varied by customer presence (505) to adhere to an algorithm reducing the noise (506) created by such machines while still creating sufficient cooling to remain within the maximum temperature while providing acceptable power economy.
Abstract:
A beverage cooler has a low voltage DC supply (311) usable by the controller ancillaries, such as lighting (318), the DC supply also providing the supply voltage to a microprocessor (313) which electronically commutates at least one of the motors (305, 306, 307) associated with beverage cooling to provide a required speed or loading. The microprocessor also responds to and controls the cooler ancillaries, such as lighting, temperature and status reporting thereby allowing a reduced component count.
Abstract:
A method of absorption spectroscopy including obtaining absorption data at multiple wavelengths along more than one line-of-sight path through a quantity of gas of interest. The method further includes identifying more than one temperature and gas species concentration bin along the multiple line-of-sight paths and creating a map of temperature and gas species concentration. The map thus created will have at least two-dimensional information derived from select temperature and gas species concentration bins identified along more than one line-of-sight path. Apparatus for implementing the above method is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A diode laser spectroscopy gas sensing apparatus having a diode laser with a select lasing frequency, a pitch optic coupled to the diode laser with the pitch optic being operatively associated with a process chamber and oriented to project laser light along a projection beam through the process chamber. This embodiment additionally includes a catch optic in optical communication with the pitch optic to receive the laser light projected through the process chamber and an optical fiber optically coupled to the catch optic. In addition, the catch optic is operatively associated with a catch side alignment mechanism which provides for the alignment of the catch optic with respect to the projection beam to increase a quantity of laser light received by the catch optic from the pitch optic and coupled to the optical fiber and a detector sensitive to the select lasing frequency optically coupled to the optical fiber. The catch side alignment mechanism may consist of means to tilt the catch optic along a first axis and a second axis orthogonal to the first axis with both the first and second axes being approximately orthogonal to the projection beam.
Abstract:
A winding for a toroidal electrodynamic machine is formed by providing a set of bobbins in a rectilinear array, winding the bobbins so that each phase is of one continuous wire, with each set of phases wound one bobbin at a time, the completed rectilinear array then being formed into a circular array for the machine. The rectilinear array has bobbins formed and is wired in such a way that bending into a torus is possible.
Abstract:
A catch side optical system for use in diode laser spectroscopy consisting of a catch side optic optically coupled to a catch side multimode optical fiber and means to mechanically manipulate a section of the catch side multimode optical fiber to minimize catch side mode noise. The mechanical manipulation may consist of twisting the catch side multimode optical fiber around its longitudinal axis. The means to mechanically manipulate the section of the catch side multimode optical fiber in the above fashion may consist of a motor associated with the catch side multimode optical fiber such that a section of fiber is held fast relative to a shaft position of the motor and the motor shaft is repetitively swept through +360 degrees and −360 degrees of motion. The frequency of the motor shaft sweep may be at least 10 Hz to enable effective averaging of the transmitted signal and thereby reduce the effect of catch side mode noise.
Abstract:
A file association recommendation function which when a user tries to execute a certain type of file such a multimedia file (e.g., a MP3 type file or JPG type file) for which there is no file association, a file association recommendation module is invoked that presents application recommendations to the user. The recommendation module will provide a user with a list of applications that may be associated with a particular type of file as well as a recommended application for the association. The recommendation module the queries the user to associate the MP3, JPG or multimedia content with one of the applications from the list of applications. The applications are pre-installed on the system. Based on the user's choice, the file association recommendation module sets that application as the default application for the certain type of file (e.g., Yahoo Music as default for playing MP3 for the user).
Abstract:
A system and method for real time dissemination of information is provided. One server receives and data bases the information while another server disseminates the information; instead of one server receiving the information, data basing the information, and dissemination the information to all users requesting the information.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for production of stator windings for dynamoelectric mechines of different configurations is provided. The windings are preferably formed on a bobbin (10) or similar article, which may then be transferred onto an appropriate carrier such as a ferromagnetic core (24). The core (24) may be provided as a substantial linear article and then be bent into an appropriate shape, so that the assembly may be provided as the stator of a dynamoelectric machine. In this configuration, only a portion of each winding will face the magnetic poles of the rotor and thus be operative, as the return path of the windings will not be used. However, the invention as disclosed also shows it is possible to build a drum rotor (39) with both external and internal rotors in order to make use of both portions of the windings on the ferromagnetic core (24).
Abstract:
A sensing apparatus consisting of more than one diode laser having select lasing frequencies, a multiplexer optically coupled to the outputs of the diode lasers with the multiplexer being further optically coupled to a pitch side optical fiber. Multiplexed laser light is transmitted through the pitch side optical fiber to a pitch optic operatively associated with a process chamber which may be a combustion chamber or the boiler of a coal or gas fired power plant. The pitch optic is oriented to project multiplexed laser output through the process chamber. Also operatively oriented with the process chamber is a catch optic in optical communication with the pitch optic to receive the multiplexed laser output projected through the process chamber. The catch optic is optically coupled to an optical fiber which transmits the multiplexed laser output to a demultiplexer. The demultiplexer demultiplexes the laser light and optically couples the select lasing frequencies of light to a detector with the detector being sensitive to one of the select lasing frequencies.
