Abstract:
An engine nacelle inlet lip includes both acoustic treatment and electric heating for ice protection. The inlet lip has a composite outer skin and a composite inner skin, with the composite outer skin having at least one integrated heater element embedded in the composite material. An acoustic cellular core positioned between the outer and inner skin acts to attenuate fan noise from the engine. Covering the outer skin and overlying the acoustic core is a perforated erosion shield having a first set of openings that pass entirely thorough its thickness. The composite outer skin includes a second set of openings such that sound waves can pass from an inner barrel portion of the inlet lip through the erosion shield, outer skin, and heater element to the underlying acoustic cellular core.
Abstract:
An aircraft component includes a first segment having a first leading edge surface that extends to a first end of the first segment. The aircraft component also includes a second segment having a second leading edge surface that extends to a second end of the second segment. The second end is substantially adjacent to the first end of the first segment, and is connected to the first end. The first leading edge surface includes electrical resistance heating that extends to the first end of the first segment. In addition, the second leading edge surface includes electrical resistance heating that extends to the second end of the second segment. The electrical resistance heating is capable of providing ice protection heating immediately on either side of a juncture between the connected first and second ends.

Abstract:
An interactive and dynamically customizable guided tour of some portion of the World Wide Web monitors and dynamically adapts in response to like-minded users as well as provides recommendations during the traversal. The invention includes features for: electronic commerce; side trips; true visiting of Web sites; maps; pre-fetching of Web objects; insertion of interactive decision points; customized insertion of advertisements; simultaneous traversal of multiple hyperpaths; collection of and dynamic modification of a tour based on collected route information and/or touring statistics.
Abstract:
An interactive method that optimizes telephone usage for a call or set of calls, given the call criteria, and makes it easy for the consumer to use the carrier that achieves this minimum cost when the consumer is ready to make the call.
Abstract:
In this invention streaming video data is embedded within a panoramic image for display. The invention teaches a method and system for displaying an image of a scene of interest from a stored environment map of the scene and from video data of the scene. The method includes the steps of: (A) receiving and storing the video data of the scene; (B) selecting an orientation of the scene; (C) retrieving video data according to the selected orientation of the scene; (D) rendering the environment map according to the selected orientation of the scene to generate a first image for the selected orientation; (E) synchronously combining the retrieved video data and the first image to form a composite image for the selected orientation of the scene of interest; and (F) displaying the composite image. In one embodiment the method for displaying the image of the scene of interest further includes a step of continuously receiving video data packets that include image data and sound data. In this embodiment the sound data is continuously played while selected portions of the image data are displayed. In another embodiment, the method for displaying the image of the scene of interest further includes a step of layering the video data and the first image generated by rendering the environment map. In the present invention layering techniques include, for example, drawing order layering, z-buffer-hiding layering, and chroma-key layering.
