Abstract: A medical device for controlling advancement of a needle or other active medical component. An exemplary device includes a needle, a sheath, and a handle. The handle includes an actuator component coupled to a proximal end of the needle and a guide component coupled to a proximal end of the sheath. The guide component slidably receives a portion of the actuator and the guide component allows the actuator to move distally via a plurality of groups of different positions, wherein each of the groups has a different radial value relative to the guide component. The guide component includes a track having a zig-zag pattern.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for providing an atraumatic sheath tip. Various disclosed embodiments seek to help reduce or avoid unnecessary tissue damage upon a sheath being extended to convey an elongated instrument for sampling or treatment. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a deformable sheath tip configured to be positioned at a distal end of a sheath. The sheath defines therein a lumen configured to convey an elongated instrument. The sheath tip has a base end disposable at the distal end of the sheath and a contact end. The sheath tip has a first column strength along an axis of the sheath tip that is less than a second column strength of the sheath and a first degree of deformability that is greater than a second degree of deformability of the sheath.

Abstract: A tissue fastening system for fastening a first biological tissue to a second biological tissue. The system includes a tissue fastening tool is made of an elastic wire rod and is wound in a coil shape. The applicator includes a needle for piercing tissue and expelling the tissue fastening tool. The tissue fastening tool includes first and second implants. One of the implants includes magnets and the other is ferromagnetic. At least one of the implants is in an elongate shape when within the needle and in in a circle or coil shape after being expelled from the needle at a first side of the biological tissue.

Abstract: A medical instrument having a handle with a clamp that is configured to maintain the instrument in two different operational modes. The medical instrument includes a needle, a sheath, a sheath handle, a needle actuator and a locking device. The distal end of the needle actuator is connected to the proximal end of the needle. The distal end of the sheath handle is connected to the proximal end of the sheath. The locking device restricts distal movement of the needle actuator relative to the sheath handle when the medical device is placed in one of two operational states. In a deactivation state the distal end of the needle is housed within the distal end of the sheath. In an activation state the distal end of the needle is distal from the distal end of the sheath.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for facilitating surgical anastomosis. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a first connector configured to engage an opening of a donor passage. A second connector is configured to engage an opening in a receiving passage. A separator is configured to support the first connector and the second connector and to fix relative positions of the end of the donor passage to edges of the opening in a receiving passage across a gap. The separator is configured to maintain the gap between the first connector and the second connector while multiple loops of a suture are passed through the edge of the opening in the donor passage and the edges of the opening in the receiving passage. The first connector, the second connector, and the separator are further configured to be removed from between adjacent loops of the multiple loops of the suture.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for positioning electrodes within a body. In an illustrative embodiment, a control handle is selectively engageable with primary and secondary actuators respectively coupled with primary and secondary electrodes. At a first position, the primary and secondary actuators are movably engaged to move in concert to a second position where distal ends of the electrodes extend into a target region. At the second position, the control handle is engaged with the secondary actuator and movable independently of the primary actuator in a first direction to a third position where the distal end of the secondary electrode extends beyond the distal end of the primary electrode. At the third position, the control handle is movably engaged with the primary actuator and movable independently of the secondary actuator in a second direction to a fourth position to partially retract the distal end of the primary electrode.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling advancement of a sheath or a catheter at a distal end of an endoscope. An exemplary apparatus includes a flexible sheath that receives a medical device within an internal lumen and is received within a working channel of an endoscope. The apparatus also includes a component that is at least one of external or internal to the sheath. The component causes a change in longitudinal motion friction of the sheath above a predefined threshold amount as the sheath moves relative to an exit ramp of the endoscope.

Abstract: A reusable rotating ultrasound capsule for mounting to a distal end of a catheter. An exemplary device includes a motor compartment having a proximal face and a distal end. A sensor compartment includes a cap that seals with the motor compartment. A motor located within the motor compartment includes a drive component and a shaft rotatably coupled to the drive component and extending distally from the motor compartment into the sensor compartment. The shaft includes an ultrasound transducer. A plurality of electrical contacts are mounted on the proximal face. At least two of the electrical contacts are electrically coupled to the motor. A rotational electrical coupler includes a rotational component mechanically coupled to the shaft and electrically coupled to the ultrasound transducer and a stationary component mechanically coupled to the motor compartment and electrically coupled to one or more of the plurality of electrical contacts.
