    Abstract: An article that can include a glass including SiO2 from 25 mol % to 99 mol %, Al2O3 from 0 mol % to 50 mol %, WO3 plus MoO3 from 0.35 mol % to 30 mol %, and R2O from 0.1 mol % to 50 mol %. R2O is one or more of Li2O, Na2O, K2O, Rb2O and Cs2O. R2O minus Al2O3 is from −35 mol % to 7 mol %. The glass includes at least one of: (i) RO from 0.02 mol % to 50 mol % and (ii) SnO2 is from 0.01 mol % to 5 mol %. RO is one or more of MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO and ZnO. The article can also include a glass-ceramic with at least one and one crystalline phase comprising an oxide, from 0.1 mol % to 100 mol % of the crystalline phase, of at least one of: (i) W, (ii) Mo, (iii) V and an alkali metal cation, and (iv) Ti and an alkali metal cation.

    Abstract: A glass-ceramic that includes: 5 mol %≤Al2O3≤40 mol %; 30 mol %≤B2O3≤60 mol %; 10 mol %≤WO3≤50 mol %; 0 mol %≤SnO2≤5 mol %; and 1 mol %≤R2O≤30 mol %, wherein R2O is one or more of Li2O, Na2O, K2O, Rb2O, and Cs2O. Further, the glass-ceramic can be silica-free and, in some cases, can have a thickness from about 0.05 mm to about 0.5 mm and one or more of: (a) a total transmittance of less than or equal to 4% at ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths below 400 nm and (b) a total transmittance from about 0.5% to about 4% in the near-infrared (NIR) spectrum from 700 nm to 1500 nm.
