Abstract:
The handrail guide is suitable for use on very thin escalator balustrades, such as are typically made of glass or the like. The handrail-contacting-track surface is formed from a low friction plastic material. The plastic track member is affixed to a mount base which clips onto the balustrade, and the track is reinforced by a recessed steel strip plate fastened directly to the base through the track.
Abstract:
The handrail guide rail has a base part which is preferably extruded metal, and can be rectilinear or curvilinear. The base telescopes over the top of the escalator balustrade which is a relatively thin glass or metal component of the escalator. Spring clamps are trapped between the balustrade and the guide rail base to clamp the base onto the balustrade.
Abstract:
An escalator is provided with a curved path of travel from its entry to its exit landings. The path of travel of the escalator steps as seen in plan is a curve having a fixed center and a constant radius from landing to landing. In elevation, each landing portion will be disposed in vertically spaced horizontal planes, and there will be a medial constant slope ascending or descending portion. Interconnecting each landing portion with the constant slope portion will be entry and exit transitional curved portions of varying slope as seen in the elevational view. To enable the steps to traverse the curved path successfully, the effective length of at least one of the step chains is varied at different points along the path of travel of the escalator.
Abstract:
A structural system for elevator assemblies includes a horizontal compression member positioned near the top of the elevator hoistway for reacting to inwardly directed tension loads and moment forces applied to the hoistway wall and connection components resulting from the elevator vertical load. The horizontal compression member includes a rigid member positioned in a compression state between mounting structures for elevator ropes and elevator machine components such that the compression member reacts and counters inwardly directed horizontal forces and resultant moment forces caused by a centralized, downward vertical load.
Abstract:
A termination device for terminating a flexible flat tension member includes a socket and two opposing wedges mounted therein. One of the wedges is preferably pinned within the socket while the other wedge is removable. The invention provides a reliable termination with a safety back-up to retain the tension member even if friction in the device is reduced due to soiling with a friction reducing material.
Abstract:
An elevator car door system for opening and closing elevator car doors in an elevator car includes a high performance linear induction motor having a pair of movable motor primaries, each attached to a door hanger for each door, and a stationary motor secondary attached to a header bracket which is secured to the elevator car. Each motor primary includes a primary winding and a backiron spaced apart by a plurality of spacers that establish a magnetic gap therebetween. The motor secondary fits between the primary winding and the backiron as the moving motor primaries travel across the motor secondary, generating thrust.
Abstract:
A pretensioning system for a relating cable synchronizing movement of elevator car doors includes a compression spring and a spacer disposed on one end of the relating cable. The compression spring is compressed to the length of the spacer disposed internally to the spring to calibrate tension in the relating cable so than a no-slip condition is ensured.
Abstract:
A linear induction motor for opening and closing elevator car doors in an elevator system includes a motor primary fixedly attached to a door hanger and a motor secondary flexibly mounted to a header bracket of the elevator car. A pair of swivel joints secure the ends of the motor secondary to the header bracket. The swivel joints compensate for misalignment and twisting of the elevator car doors by allowing multi-dimensional movement of the motor secondary relative to the header bracket.
Abstract:
An overlay for a elevator guide rail extends over the joints between segments to provide a seamless engagement surface for the guide rail. The overlay separates the engagement surface from the joints between adjacent segments to minimize vibration and improve the comfort of the ride. In one embodiment, an elevator includes a guide rail having a support formed from multiple segments joined end to end and an overlay encompassing a portion of the support. The overlay defines the engagement surface for the guide shoes of the elevator.
Abstract:
A handrail entry guard is provided having a pair of symmetrically opposed elastomeric halves for substantially surrounding a handrail of a balustrade when the guard is in a normal position. Each half includes a rear edge, a forward edge, and a top surface. The forward edge extends from the top surface to the rear edge along an arcuate path.
