Abstract:
An apparatus and method for controlling weeds and undergrowth, as well as insect infestation, as are typically encountered in agricultural environments is disclosed. The apparatus is characterized by its construction to include a heater whereby liquid spray material is first heated to a temperature of from about 100.degree. F. to about 240.degree. F. and then sprayed on the substance to be controlled. The apparatus is further characterized by its construction to include an insulating apron for maintaining the heated spray material in close contact with the substance onto which it is sprayed, while at the same time insulating the heated spray and treated substance from ambient conditions. A variety of fluid conduits and controls are provided so that a variety of spray liquids may be applied in predetermined fashion. The apparatus is constructed so that it can be attached to a standard tractor for ease of use. The method of this invention is characterized by its utilization of agricultural chemicals in amounts from virtually 0% to about 50% of their current recommended dose rate.
Abstract:
A self-cleaning filter assembly for removing suspended matter from fluids, primarily utilized in irrigation or similar distribution systems, resulting in reduced maintenance of the filter assembly as well as the total system. The filter assembly comprises a container having at least one inlet aperture and at least one outlet aperture therethrough and a filter screen, comprising a hollow perforated body, inserted within the container. One end of a conduit is connected in fluid flow relationship to the inlet aperture of the container while the other end of the conduit terminates within the hollow body comprising the filter screen. The outlet aperture is so located that the fluid entering the container through the fluid inlet aperture and the conduit must pass through the filter screen before exiting the container through the outlet aperture.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to improved processes for selectively chlorinating acyl compounds at the alpha or 2-position. The process of the present invention comprises a method of producing alpha-chloro acyl chlorides comprising contacting an acyl chloride with a chlorine source at a temperature of about 75.degree. C. to about 125.degree. C. in the presence of (i) an effective amount of an auxiliary acidic agent and (ii) an effective amount of a food grade antioxidant and optionally (iii) an effective amount of oxygen or air.
Abstract:
An auto-adhering one-component room temperature vulcanizable silicone sealant composition generally utilizing a di-substituted mixed oximealkoxysilyalkyl area adhesion promoter compound. The sealant has low odor, is non-corrosive to ferrous or aluminum substrates, has good adhesion to many types of substrates, and eliminates the need for a silicone resin primer. In addition, it exhibits surprisingly good adhesion to oil contaminated surfaces.
Abstract:
An improved oil well pumping unit has an arc latch which is remotely actuable so that a workman is not required to climb onto, or be in the immediate vicinity of the arc, in order to move the arc to an inoperative position spaced from the centerline of the well.
Abstract:
A seat suspension system, which includes a height adjustment valve for positioning a seat at a desired height in response to manual positioning of a height adjustment lever by controlling the amount of hydraulic fluid supplied to a cylinder having a piston therein coupled to the seat, provides damping of vertical motion of the seat by an accumulator coupled to the cylinder via a conduit so as to receive the hydraulic fluid from the cylinder and two different valves disposed in the conduit. A manually adjustable flow control valve has an adjustable orifice within the conduit for providing the seat with a nominal amount of damping. The damping of the suspension system is increased beyond the nominal amount in response to seat velocity in a downward direction by the second valve which responds to the pressure of hydraulic fluid flowing from the cylinder to the accumulator so as to restrict the flow of the fluid by an amount dependent upon the fluid pressure and thereby the rate of change of downward movement of the seat. At the same time the second valve is generally unresponsive to the pressure of fluid flowing in an opposite direction from the accumulator to the cylinder so as to be unidirectional in nature.
Abstract:
Apparatus for preventing injury to fielders, including control means to be actuated by a coach or other person or persons, and separate fielder units to be carried by different fielders and adapted to receive radio signals from the control means and produce signals which can be sensed by the fielder to indicate to him which of the fielders is nearer to the ball and should field it.

A tee for holding a football in kicking position and including suction means for retaining the ball against dislocation from the tee by wind or the like, with the suction means preferably including a motor driven blower contained in the tee and creating a vacuum effect at several locations of contact with the ball.
Abstract:
Devices, systems, and methods for minimizing power losses in light emitting diode drivers are disclosed. In one aspect a system comprises a constant current LED driver comprising a regulation detector configured to detect if the driver is regulating current and send feedback to a controller configured to adjust the output voltage of an adjustable power supply to be substantially equal to the minimum voltage required for the driver to be in regulation.
Abstract:
Systems for retarding the speed of a railcar comprise: a brake; a hydraulic actuator moving the brake between a closed position in which the brake applies braking pressure on a wheel of the railcar and an open position in which the brake does not apply braking pressure on the wheel of the rail car; a hydraulic circuit comprising a first manifold and a second manifold; a pump configured to pump hydraulic fluid into at least one of the first manifold and the second manifold; and a logic element controlling pressure of the fluid in the first manifold such that when the wheel enters the brake and forces the brake towards the open position. The logic element reacts to maintain a selected pressure in the first manifold, thus causing a selected braking pressure to be applied by the brake on the wheel of the railcar.
