Abstract:
Methods and systems for producing activated carbon from a particulate coal feedstock that include the introduction of an activation medium such that the water content of the coal feedstock is equal to or greater than that of the feedstock's naturally occurring state. Different methods and system configurations allow the production of activated carbon or other heat-treated carbons while concurrently avoiding adverse reaction conditions.
Abstract:
An improved electric motor (34) includes a plurality of resiliently deflectable members (144, 146) which are disposed between a base (108) and a stator (100) to reduce transmission of vibration between the base and the stator. The resiliently deflectable members (144, 146) may be tubular spring pins which are disposed between the stator (100) and the base (108). Each of the tubular spring pins (144, 146) may have a cylindrical side wall (186) which defines a slot (184). During operation of the electric motor (34), vibration induced in the stator (100) causes the side walls (186) of the spring pins (144, 146) to resiliently deflect to attenuate the vibration. The stator (100) may be mounted on a tubular section (108) of the base. The spring pins (144, 146) may be disposed between the stator (100) and the tubular section (108) of the base. The tubular spring pins (144a) may be formed by rolled up sheet members (200).
Abstract:
A foldable motor vehicle seat including a horizontal seat cushion and a vertical seat back joined at a horizontal hinge for pivotal movement of the seat cushion from a horizontal position to a vertical position folded against the seat back. The seat back is connected to a side wall of a body of the motor vehicle for pivotal movement about a vertical axis between a seating position in a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal centerline of the motor vehicle and a cargo position in a plane parallel to the longitudinal centerline. With the seat cushion folded vertically against the seat back and the seat back in its cargo position, the floor of the motor vehicle under the seat is exposed for cargo. With the seat cushion horizontal and the seat back in its seating position, a passenger may sit on the foldable seat. A strut pivotally supported on the seat cushion has a raised position against a side of the seat cushion and a lowered position when the seat cushion is horizontal defining a vertical brace between the seat cushion and the floor. A latch releasably secures the strut to the floor of the motor vehicle.
Abstract:
An electrical outlet box for raised floors is formed as a metal box (10) in which electrical sockets (20) or switches can be mounted in the bottom; the box has a lid assembly (14) which is vertically adjustable relative to the box by means of a pawl (62, 63) and ratchet (67, 68) arrangement. This arrangement enables rapid adjustment of the vertical distance between the lid and box so that different thicknesses of floor covering can be allowed for.
Abstract:
The shooting game includes programmable flip-up targets spaced along a game course, and sensors associated with the targets that detect the presence of a player near the associated target. A. programmable main controller transmits skill level control instructions to each of the target controllers. The target controllers cause the targets to fire paint balls or other items at the player in accordance with the selected skill level. The game may be played indoors or outdoors by one or more players.
Abstract:
A radar seeker transient suppressor for an anti-radar homing missile in which glint effects upset the smooth tracking of a target by apparently changing the target position spasmodically. A seeker output signal is derived which is at least substantially independent of body movement e.g. the target sightline angle signal rather than the look angle signal (i.e. relative to a space reference rather than a body reference). This signal is used to control the steering either filtered or unfiltered according to whether the difference exceeds a threshold value or not. Both azimuth and elevation channels are treated similarly and in unison. An excessive filtered/unfiltered difference in either channel causes use of the filtered signal in both. A double integrating filter may be employed to avoid the relative displacement of output and input signals when the input is, or contains, a ramp component.
