    Abstract: One embodiment is an apparatus/system for providing feedback to a procedure. The apparatus includes a real time wavefront sensor for measuring the wavefront of an optical beam, a real time video camera for capturing a scene where the optical beam comes from, a computer for processing the captured wavefront data and synchronizing the data with the video and outputting the synchronized information to a display, and a display for simultaneously displaying the synchronized wavefront and video information. Another embodiment of the present invention is a method for providing feedback to a procedure. The method involves the steps of measuring the wavefront of an optical beam with a real time wavefront sensor; capturing a video of a scene from which the optical beam comes; processing the captured wavefront data and synchronizing it with the video; and simultaneously displaying the wavefront information with the video on the same display screen.

The front lens for relaying the wavefront from the eye to a wavefront sampling plane is positioned at the optical input port of the wavefront sensor module. The front lens is shared by the wavefront sensor and the ophthalmic instrument, and the wavefront sensor module can be made very compact while still being able to cover a large eye wavefront measurement diopter range.Another embodiment disclosed is an ophthalmic device for measuring properties of a subject eye including an ophthalmic instrument integrated with the wavefront sensor module.

    Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention is an ophthalmic wavefront sensor for use with an ophthalmic microscope to provide continuous measurements of the refractive state of an eye. The wavefront sensor operates in both parallel sampling and lock-in detection mode by synchronizing the pulsing of the light source with a multiple number of position sensing devices/detectors used for detecting the centroid position of the sampled sub-wavefronts. Other embodiments include a beam scanner to sample selected portions of the wavefront and a live image sensor and a tracking deflector.

    Abstract: A light emitter drive circuit for an oximeter which utilizes a single inductor for driving multiple light emitters. The inductor is connected to a switching circuit to multiple energy storage circuits, such as capacitors. These are alternately charged up, using the same inductor. Subsequently, the capacitors are alternatively discharged for their corresponding light emitters through the same inductor. Also, the magnetic susceptibility of the LED drive circuit is reduced by using magnetic flux canceling in the inductor. In one embodiment, a toroidal inductor is used with geometric symmetry and its magnetic flux. In other embodiment, a dual core closed bobbin shielded inductor is used.

    Abstract: A pulse oximeter method and apparatus which provides (1) a notch filter at a distance between a modulation frequency and a common multiple of commonly used power line frequencies (50, 60, 100 and 120) and also (2) a demodulation frequency greater than a highest pulse rate of a person and lower than any harmonic of 50, 60, 100 or 120 Hz, to filter ambient light interference, while choosing an optimum demodulation frequency that avoids interference from the notch filter or from harmonics of the line interference.     Abstract: A pulse oximeter with drive lines for driving red and IR LEDs, and a drive circuit for driving those drive lines. A processor controls the drive circuit using a red zero output line and an IR zero output line directly connected between the processor and the drive circuit. This allows a control signal to directly control the turning off of either the red or IR drive transistors to prevent forward current flow through the red and IR LEDs by overriding the ongoing programmable logic state machine control of the drive transistors.
