Abstract: The disclosure discloses methods and systems for automatically generating multiple scanned files when scanning a document at a multi-function device. The method includes receiving a multi-page document for scanning from a user. A user interface is provided to the user to input one or more keywords and one or more desired resolution values, where the input resolution values are different from a default resolution value set at the multi-function device. A page of the document is scanned to generate a scanned page of a default resolution value. The scanned page is checked if including the one or more input keywords. Accordingly, the default resolution value of the page is converted to the user desired resolution value. The scanning, checking, and converting are repeated till all the pages of the document are scanned. Multiple scanned files of different resolution values are automatically generated from single scan activity.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses methods and systems for generating a mixed raster content (MRC) format file for a single background color image document. The method includes receiving an input document at an image capturing device. The input document is segmented into an image layer and a text layer. Then, image content in the image layer is determined. Upon an affirmative determination, a new image layer is generated by adding the determined image content to a white background image layer using a morphological operation. The text layer and the new image layer is compressed using respective compression schemes. The compressed text layer and the new image layer are integrated to generate image data in the MRC file format. The generated image data is stored in a memory device.

Abstract: An image compression method includes compressing an input image with first and second compression methods to generate first and second (e.g., lossless and lossy) compressed images. First and second residual layers are generated, based on a difference between the first and second compressed images. Connected components in the residual layers are identified. Each connected component includes a group of one or more pixels that, when mapped to the second compressed image is connected, in first and second directions, to pixels in the second compressed image. A compressed image is generated, which includes, for a connected component identified in the first residual layer, removing corresponding pixels from the second compressed image, and for a connected component identified in the second residual layer, adding corresponding pixels to the second compressed image. The system and method can thus provide file size savings associated with lossy compression while avoiding character replacement.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses methods and systems for creating a multi-layered Optical Character Recognition (OCR) document, the multi-layered OCR document facilitates selection of the desired text from the multi-layered OCR document. The method includes receiving a scanned image corresponding to a document, the document includes text information. A binary image is generated from the scanned image. Then, a morphological dilation operation is performed to create one or more text groups, using a horizontal structuring element and a vertical structuring element. Thereafter, OCR operation is applied on each text group to generate a corresponding OCR layer. The one or more OCR layers are then combined while creating a multi-layered OCR document. Finally, the combined OCR layers are superimposed as invisible text layers over the scanned image to create the multi-layered OCR document.

Abstract: Methods and devices process an electronic image of an item that has a background color and line features of a second color distinct from the background color. An electronic image and a menu option are displayed to allow the user to define at least one area of the electronic image as a distinctive color region. The electronic image is separated into different planes, and line features within the distinctive color region are removed from a second mask plane (second color) and added to a third mask plane (third color). The first plane, second mask plane, and third mask plane, are combined into an electronic file, and automatically stored.

Abstract: An electronic document image of a document is captured using a camera of a handheld device. A user interface of the handheld device displays an instruction to place the handheld device on the document and to change the magnification of the electronic document image on the user interface until the electronic document image and the document are the same size. The handheld device automatically determines the original size of the document based on the magnification that made the electronic document image and the document the same size when the handheld device was on the document. The handheld device converts the electronic document image into an original size document image file based on the original size of the document.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments illustrate methods and systems for estimating a skew angle of an image. The method includes identifying a set of measurable blocks from one or more blocks in said image. Thereafter, the method includes determining a slope of each measurable block in said second set of measurable blocks. Further, the slope is utilizable to estimate said skew angle of said image. The method is performed by one or more microprocessors.

Abstract: A method and an application server are provided for processing an image. The application server comprising an image processing unit processes an image by segmenting into first segmented layer and a second segmented layer. The image processing unit identifies one or more regions in the first segmented layer and for a coordinate in the identified region a vicinity check condition is performed in the second segmented layer. The image processing unit compares a first size of identified region with at least an average size of the set of text components in the second segmented layer.
