Abstract: A combination umbrella and fan includes a centrally located support rod having upper and lower ends with a fan housing secured to the upper end of the support rod. The fan housing includes a lower end having a plurality of open slots extending therethrough and a plurality of openings extending therethrough near an upper end. An electrically powered fan motor is provided, the fan motor having an output shaft secured to a propeller located within the fan housing. The fan motor is reversible for rotating the propeller in first and second directions. A power supply provides electrical power to the fan motor, the power supply including a switch for reversing the electric motor. A flexible cover member is provided and a plurality of spaced part rib members and stretchers are provided for supporting the cover member.

Abstract: An electric fan and patio umbrella combination. The device uses an electric fan mounted as a integral part of a patio umbrella. The umbrella fabric is open at the top exposing the fan to direct air from above. This direct exposure to an air source is what gives the device its high volume of air flow. Since the fan support structure is a part of the upper umbrella support structure, the umbrella can be raised or lowered around the fan blades without the need to hinge the blades up or down, therefore allowing the umbrella to fold. This is accomplished by the use of an upper support ring that provides an outer hinge point for the upper umbrella rib supports. The fan blades block most sunlight from entering the fabric opening at the top, however an additional fabric cover is provided that may be pulled over the opening if desired.

Abstract: A vented umbrella is resistant to inversion from the wind and effective in ventilation. The umbrella comprises a foldable frame, a lower canopy, and an upper canopy in a concentric covering relation with respect to lower canopy with a small overlapped peripheral area therebetween. A plurality of nonelastic ropes are provided each connected between the center portion of peripheral edge in each sector of lower canopy and the upper ring. As such, a plurality of openings are formed at the junction between sectors of upper canopy and lower canopy in a fully extended condition. This also can save cloth and effect a simplified manufacturing process.

Abstract: Disclosed is a unit, for removing rainwater from umbrellas, that can easily, effectively, and quickly remove rainwater from umbrellas. This unit comprises an umbrella insertion portion into which an umbrella that is wet with rain is inserted, a rainwater collecting portion where rainwater is held and from which it is discharged, and, with some configurations, a fan compartment from which warm air is driven into the umbrella insertion portion.
