Abstract: Systems and methods for determining a dominant color in a digital image are provided and include dividing pixels of the digital image into pixel groups, with pixels in a first pixel group being closer to a center of the digital image than pixels in a second pixel group. Pixels in the first and second pixel groups having a chroma value greater than a predetermined chroma value threshold and a lightness greater than a low brightness threshold and less than a high brightness threshold are analyzed using a first sample rate for the first pixel group and a second sample rate for the second group. The first sample rate is greater than the second sample rate. A dominant color for the digital image is determined based on the analyzed pixels in the first and second pixel groups.

Abstract: Systems and methods for color coordination for scanned products are provided. A kiosk has an input device, a display device, and an optical code reader and has access to a product/color database. The kiosk is configured to receive an identification code scanned by the optical code reader, determine a product sample associated with the identification code, determine at least one coordinating color for the flooring product based on the product/color database, display a simulated environment including a sample room having at least one selectable surface, display on the display device the at least one coordinating color, receive with the input device a selected color, receive with the input device a selected surface from the sample room, and display on the display device the simulated environment showing the sample room with the product sample and with the selected color on the selected surface of the sample room.

Abstract: Systems and methods for color selection are provided and include a web server configured to communication computer executable instructions to a mobile device that configure the mobile device to access a social media platform, retrieve a plurality of images from the social media platform, determine a dominant color for each image of the plurality of images using different sample rates for different pixel groups based on how close each pixel group is to the center of the image, determine a closest matching paint color for the dominant color for each image, and display at least one of a color name and a color code associated with the closest matching paint color for the dominant color for each image.

Abstract: A method for a user to paint an image includes generating a display of a room image uploaded by the user. The method also includes employing a straight-line masking tool to block off a first area of the room image with a straight line such that color will not be applied to the first area when color is applied to a second area of the room image. The method also includes employing a polygon masking tool to draw at least three lines to mask off a selected polygon area of the room image such that color can be applied by the user to an inside of the selected polygon area when the user selects the inside of the selected polygon area and an outside of the selected polygon area when the user selects the outside of the selected polygon area.

Abstract: A method for forming an emulsion polymer includes a step of forming a pre-emulsion by combining a monomer composition with a siloxane-containing composition in water and polymerizing the pre-emulsion by combining the pre-emulsion with a radical initiator in a reactor to form a reaction mixture. Characteristically, the monomer composition includes one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of (meth)acrylic acid monomers, (meth)acrylic monomers, styrene monomers, vinyl acetate monomers, vinyl ester monomers, and combinations thereof. A paint composition that includes the emulsion polymer is also provided. This invention describes a method to provide excellent burnish and mar resistance while avoiding problems with film appearance that can result from siloxane addition.

A web server stores a lookup table that associates room types and types of feelings with paint colors such that each possible combination of room type and type of feeling is associated with a subset of paint colors. A user device displays the room types, receives a room type selection indicating a particular room type, displays the types of feelings, receives a type of feeling selection indicating a particular type of feeling, accesses the lookup table and determines the associated subset of paint colors in the lookup table for the combination of the particular room type and the particular type of feeling, and displays the associated subset of paint colors as recommended paint colors for the combination of the particular room type and the particular type of feeling on the display of the user device.
