Abstract:
There is provided herein a curing agent compound for curing thermosetting resins, e.g., epoxy resins, a composition comprising a thermoplastic and/or thermosetting resin, e.g., an epoxy resin and the curing agent, an article comprising the curing agent, and a method of making the curing agent.
Abstract:
There is provided herein a stable suspension of at least one of an inorganic oxide, an inorganic hydroxide, an inorganic carbonate and mixed salts thereof of the metals of groups II and III of the Periodic Table of Elements in a liquid phosphate ester. There is also provided a flame retarded thermoplastic resin composition containing a hydrolysis-susceptible thermoplastic resin and the stable suspension. There is also provided an electronic component comprising the flame retarded thermoplastic resin composition.
Abstract:
A method of making hydroxymethylphosphonate comprising heating paraformaldehyde in a solvent to a desired reaction temperature, wherein the solvent is present in at least an amount necessary to solvate or suspend the paraformaldehyde; adding at least one alkyl phosphite to the heated paraformaldehyde, to provide hydroxymethylphosphonate, the alkyl phosphite being added to the heated paraformaldehyde at a rate which will avoid or inhibit the production of a significant exotherm and resulting high/significant level of acid by-product(s), there being present in the reaction medium at least one hindered amine catalyst in which the nitrogen in the amine is directly bound to a secondary and/or tertiary carbon of an organic group; and, optionally, following the completion of the addition, heating the reaction mixture to an elevated temperature.
Abstract:
There is provided herein an antimony trioxide-free flame-retarded styrenic thermoplastic polymer composition comprising: (a) at least one styrenic thermoplastic polymer; (b) at least one brominated flame retardant, (c) at least one metal phosphonate; and, (d) at least one antidripping agent. There is also provided a method of making said flame retarded styrenic thermoplastic polymer composition; and, an article comprising the styrenic thermoplastic polymer composition.
Abstract:
There is provided herein a flame-retarded polyolefin composition comprising a thermoplastic polyolefin, an inorganic flame retardant filler and a metal phosphonate or metal phosphinate synergist of the general formula (A): where Me is a metal, R1 and R2 are the same or different linear or branched or cyclic alkyls having up to 6 carbon atoms, or benzyl, n is a metal valency and can be, 1, 2, 3 or 4, x is 1 for metal phosphonates and x is 0 for metal phosphinates. There is also provided a method for making a flame-retarded polyolefin composition comprising contacting at least one thermoplastic polyolefin polymer with at least one inorganic flame retardant filler and at least one metal phosphonate or metal phosphinate synergist and heating the mixture to above the melting temperature of the thermoplastic polyolefin.
