Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are provided for alleviating processing requirements of a central computer in a vessel. Each apparatus is placed in close proximity to one or more pieces of electronic equipment implementing a legacy interface. The apparatus processes data to and from the electronic equipment, including converting data to formats consistent with the formats used by the intended recipient.
Abstract:
The specification describes methods for the manufacture of very large optical fiber preforms wherein the core material is produced by MCVD. Previous limitations on preform size inherent in having the MCVD starting tube as part of the preform process are eliminated by removing the MCVD starting tube material from the collapsed MCVD rod by etching or mechanical grinding. Doped overcladding tubes are used to provide the outer segments of the refractive index profile thus making most effective use of the MCVD produced glass and allowing the production of significantly larger MCVD preforms than previously possible.
Abstract:
A filter retrieval system for retrieving a previously implanted medical filter, and methods of using the retrieval system, are disclosed. The filter retrieval system has a flexible shaft, a retrieval element, and a handle with an actuator. The flexible shaft may be catheter-based, and has a proximal and a distal end, and has an opening near its distal end. The handle is affixed to the shaft near the proximal end of the shaft, and the actuator is adapted to manipulate the retrieval element. When an operator manipulates the actuator, the retrieval element is adapted to protrude slightly from the shaft opening. As the actuator is operated, the retrieval element can grasp or hook or otherwise engage a portion of the filter, and then pull the filter in through the opening into a passage or lumen of the catheter shaft. The retrieval system may be capable of retrieving a filter in either a proximal or a distal direction as desired.
Abstract:
A wheelchair has a frame which includes a right fore member and a left fore member, and a footrest between them. The footrest includes a right supporting arm extending rearwardly from the right fore member, a left supporting arm extending rearwardly from the left fore member, and a panel upon which may rest a users feet and which pivotably attaches to the right supporting arm at a rearward portion thereof and pivotably attaches to the left supporting arm at a rearward portion thereof. The panel is pivotable upwardly and rearwardly from a first position in which it is generally horizontally oriented for supporting the user's feet to a second position behind the user's feet whereby to allow the user to stand unencumbered by the panel.
Abstract:
The present invention includes compositions, kits and methods useful for the detection of mastitis in an animal. These agents and methods are primarily directed to a method of detecting the presence of mastitis, including sub-clinical mastitis, in cows, involving incubating a sample of milk from the cow with an agent that binds to lactoferrin such as, e.g., a monoclonal antibody specific for lactoferrin, and then detecting bound lactoferrin. The invention includes lateral-flow immunoassay methods and devices for assessing the presence of lactoferrin in milk samples.
Abstract:
An adjustable workstation for vehicles includes a mounting bracket, an upstanding support arm extending upward from the support bracket, and a planar working surface coupled to the support arm. The workstation includes a hinge means interconnecting the mounting bracket and the support arm, an extension means within the support arm for adjusting the height of the support arm, and a pivot means interconnecting the support arm and the working surface for positioning the working surface in a desired orientation. The hinge means, extension means, and pivot means form a combined adjustment means which allows the workstation to be readily adjusted so that the working surface is positioned in a desired location and orientation. The mounting bracket and the combined adjustment means also allow the workstation to be installed into and removed from a vehicle, and allows the workstation to be collapsed into a compact, transportable configuration.
