Supported metallic catalysts comprised of a Group VIII metal, a Group VIB metal, and an organic additive, and methods for synthesizing supported metallic catalysts are provided. The catalysts are prepared by a method wherein precursors of both metals are mixed and interacted with at least one organic additive, dried, calcined, and sulfided. The catalysts are used for hydroprocessing, particularly hydrodesulfurization and hydrodenitrogenation, of hydrocarbon feedstocks.

Disclosed are a continuous wave supercontinuum laser source resonator using low-priced multimode semiconductor lasers as pumping light and applying a rare-earth doped optical fiber and a Highly Nonlinear Dispersion Shifted Fiber (HNL-DSF) to a ring resonator structure to embody a continuous wave supercontinuum light source, and a medical diagnostic apparatus using the same. The resonator consists of a pump combiner for inputting pumping light into the resonator; a rare-earth doped optical fiber for receiving and converting the pumping light into seed light of a predetermined wavelength band; a Highly Nonlinear Dispersion Shifted Fiber (HNL-DSF) for converting the light converted by the rare-earth doped optical fiber and oscillating in the resonator into a continuous wave supercontinuum laser source; and a coupler for outputting the supercontinuum laser source generated from the Highly Nonlinear Dispersion Shifted Fiber (HNL-DSF). Accordingly, it is possible to embody a simple and inexpensive continuous wave supercontinuum laser source.

A method of displaying a user interface for a time shift function and a personal video recorder (PVR) using the same are provided. The method includes: displaying a user interface on a screen; displaying, on the user interface, a broadcasting time of a currently playing program; and displaying a status of broadcast recording on the user interface. The user interface is in the form of an analog watch.

A method and apparatus for adjusting scrolling speed according to the location of an item currently being highlighted on a screen in a block containing the item. The method includes: measuring a distance between the item currently being highlighted on the screen and a last item of the block containing the item; and reducing the scrolling speed if the measured distance is smaller than a predefined value. Therefore, it is possible for a user to identify the location of desired data while quickly scrolling through a considerable amount of data on a screen.

A method and apparatus for culturing bean sprouts in water are disclosed. A method for culturing bean sprouts in water according to the present invention comprises the steps of placing a quantity of beans into net bags; immersing the net bags of beans into a container of water; injecting air into the water of the container and maintaining the water temperature at about 20° C. while the net bags of beans are immersed in the water of the container; and renewing the water of the container at regular intervals. An apparatus for culturing bean sprouts in water comprises a container for holding water; a plurality of net bags for holding a quantity of beans capable of immersion in the container; nozzles for injecting air into the water of the container; and heaters and coolers for maintaining the water temperature at around 20° C.
