    Abstract: A multiview camera and multiview imaging system provide a plurality of different cropped images corresponding to a virtual screen located in a scene. The multiview camera includes a plurality of cameras configured to capture different images of a scene that have an overlapping portion in common. The multiview camera further includes an image processor configured to provide cropped images from the captured images according to a cropping window defined within the overlapping portion. The cropping window corresponds to a virtual screen located within the scene. An arrangement of the cameras corresponds to an arrangement of views of a multiview display configured to display the cropped images. The multiview imaging system further includes the multiview display.

    Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) display driver includes a single buffer and a mapping circuit. The single buffer is configured to store a tiled image that includes a contiguously arranged plurality of tiles. Each tile represents a different 3D view of a 3D image. The different 3D views have associated angular ranges and principal angular directions. The mapping circuit is configured to access the stored tiled image and to map pixels from the different 3D views into pixels at corresponding locations in a composite image. The composite image is configured to spatially interleave the pixels from the different 3D views so that pixels from each of the different 3D views are distributed across the composite image. A 3D electronic display includes the mapping circuit.

A backlight system includes the bar collimator and further includes a light source and a backlight adjacent to the light guide of the bar collimator, the backlight being configured to receive collimated light from a diffraction grating of the bar collimator.

    Abstract: A privacy display provides a private image exclusively visible within a viewing cone of a viewbox. The privacy display includes a light guide to guide light, a diffraction grating configured to diffractively couple out a portion of the guided light as diffractively coupled-out light and to direct the diffractively coupled-out light into the viewbox, and a light valve array configured to modulate the diffractively coupled-out light to provide the private image. An extent of the viewbox is determined by a collimation factor of the guided light. A dual-mode privacy display system further includes a broad-angle backlight configured to provide broad-angle light to separately provide a public image visible both inside and outside the viewing cone. The private image may be provided in a privacy mode and the public image may be provided in a public mode of the dual-mode privacy display system.

    Abstract: A directional backlight is disclosed. The directional backlight has a plurality of light sources to generate a plurality of input planar lightbeams. The plurality of input planar lightbeams illuminates a directional backplane that has a plurality of directional pixels to scatter the plurality of input planar lightbeams into a plurality of directional lightbeams. Each directional lightbeam has a direction and angular spread controlled by characteristics of a directional pixel in the plurality of directional pixels.
